the basement ended up not being as creepy as they hoped. although it was dark and had a few unwanted spider webs, neither of the two were anywhere near frightened. it was just a small and dusty room with closet filled with random summer clothes. after heading upstairs, the two had sat on the couch, the only source of light being the phones they were on.

a question tugged at giovanna's as she glanced at cal ever so often. she bit her lip, sighing and looking back down at the random game she was playing. cal looked up, watching her for a moment after hearing her not so quiet sigh. "what?" he asked, raising an eyebrow and straightening up on the couch. "what's the sigh for?"

she forced a laugh, trying to wave it off. "it's nothing," she shrugged. he obviously didn't believe her. "really." she looked back down at her phone, hoping he would just ignore it. he didn't.

"really, g? you expect me to believe you?" he asked, shaking his head. even though they became "friends" an hour or so ago, he still was nosey. "just tell me what's wrong."

"no, callum!" she huffed. "literally it's not important. step off." she rolled her eyes, lying back and focusing on her phone.

"fine, be a bitch about it," he scoffed. she looked up just to glare at him. "what the hell is wrong now? i was being so nice, and now you act like this."

"oh, shut the hell up!" she groaned, standing up from the couch and crossing her arms. "you're the one being an arse." as if impulse, cal jumped up immediately, mocking the shorter girl's actions.

"God," he mumbled to himself, angrily. "this is why i hate you."

she laughed,"how funny!" she turned to the side and huffed. "that was what i was going to ask. why did you hate me? guess you answered the question." she threw a pillow at him before running up the stairs to the shared locked room. she wasn't happy. callum wasn't happy.

he threw himself back on the couch like a toddler throwing a tantrum. after a moment of taking a break and not hating her, he felt a sense of peace.

fighting had just grown into a habit. a hour will never make you best friends. he set his phone beside him, looking at the ceiling. he groaned, wondering whether he should be stubborn or go apologize.

he stayed on the couch a moment, gathering his thoughts. he knew the answer to her question.

why did he hate her? it wasn't because of her stubborn attitude or her lack of the ability to answer his questions. it was simply because his young self was obsessed with how pretty she was. with her plump lips and curly hair. her dark eyes had him captivated when he was only seven. and when little boys have crushes, braid pulling and name calling just seemed natural.

she still was beautiful, but she had grown into her cute nose and big ears. her two front teeth had came back, but it was too late. pretty girls don't like mean mean boys. bitter, young cal decided to make her life a living hell, and that's exactly what happened.

hate. ever look, every word, every single action they had towards each other was filled with hate. he was an asshole. she was a bitch. it wasn't going to change that quickly, and as much as callum wished he could go back now, he couldn't.

the single moment of peace and a good look at the gorgeous, funny girl he finally saw as herself made him get the tingly feeling he used to have. he wasn't going to make her life hell this time. he was going to be a good guy. he was going to make sure she was happy this time. make it up for it this time.

"giovanna!" he shouted as he ran up the stairs. he reached their door and knocked a few times. "look, i'm sorry. my mom made me nosy." he heard her try to suppress a giggle." can we come in?" after a few moments, the door was open. "can we talk?"

she shrugged,"it's not your fault, callum. nothing to talk about."

"please?"

she sighed," in the morning. i just need to sleep." she gave him a weak smile, sitting back down on her bed and snuggling to her pillow. "night, cal."

"night, g."
