* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *The wind twirled around Cy and Nick as they walked down the long street to their school. It was chilly as it being fall but Nick didn't seem to mind much of it. Cy was holding on to herself as she walked on the right side of Nick, his arm slid over her shoulder, holding her closer to his average built body. She had to admit as cold as it was she was surprised on how little Nick was shivering; and how warm he was.
"Aren't you cold?" She looked up to Nick-who was six inches taller than her-with a curious look. His black hair twisted in the wind around his dark blue eyes.
"A little but not much," he responded with a short chuckle still looking forward. As if feeling her gaze on him, he looked down at her. "What?" His dark eyes reflected the sunrise in the east and the smoky grey clouds in the sky making tiny majestic paintings in his eyes.
Cy looked forward with a small shrug. "Nothing." She wanted to ask why he wasn't cold but just decided to shake the thought loose-knowing it wasn't really important. Instead she just leaned in closer to Nick's body to find more heat. "Nothing, at all."
They continued walking down the sidewalk, but Cy was caught up in observing her surroundings. She noticed how the autumn trees were slowly lost their rainbow leaves, how the blue sky was taken over by invasions of grey clouds, how the sunrise shaded the blue sky with pinks, purples, oranges, yellows and darker blues.
Several people were walking the same direction they were and some were not. The wind squeezed them then left in instants. And voices were being trailed off from far away distances. It was the last time they'd be walking to school that week.
Good thing it's Friday. Cy thought.
Inside the school was warmer, which was definitely a good thing. Nick shrugged his arm off of Cy as they squeezed through the the corridor together; little groups of people crowded both sides of the hall, making the wide hallway narrower to walk through, as they headed for the cafeteria.
As Cy was making and breaking eye contact with people, a peculiar pair of charcoal eyes locked with hers. Her heart jumped as a sharp tingle skidded through her. She was just about to break eye contact when Cy suddenly had a flash of heat and cold rush through her so fast that she nearly fell over in the middle of the hall.
Cy felt it like a curtain was pulled up through her with the sensation of heat and cold in one long shiver. Her eyes snapped shut and grasped her head just as her knees gave out, but Nick had caught her instantly by her waist, steadying her, not caring how many people were looking at them.
Many whispers found their ways to his ears.
"What's wrong with her...?"
"Is she alright...?"
And some the giggling from girls were heard about how strong Nick was.
"Cy! Are you okay? What's wrong?" Fear and worry and alarm was dead heard in his voice. He led her to an empty hallway and had her lean against the wall. His arm he had wrapped around her waist-supporting her in case she fell again-and the other took her arm over his shoulder, making the balance even.
"Cy, what happened?" He shifted her and moved her chin with his hand, lifting her face up to have him look at her.
Cy's eyes were shut and her expression screamed major headache.
"Cy?" He let her head drop back down.
Cy's eyes fluttered. "I'm...fine..." She slowly dropped the hold of her head and released the tension in her shoulders and body as the curtain disappeared slowly. She opened up her eyes and looked up to Nick. Though her vision was blurry and coming into focus, she saw Nick's expression mix with worry, confusion and alarm.
