Cy and Nick were on the bed, nervously waiting and looking back and forth between a comic, when Jen walked in clutching a plush blanket around her shoulders. Her head hung low making a curtain of black red hair falling around her face. Nick and Cy turned their heads to her, dropping the comic. Nick was the first to get up off the bed, he went straight for her about to go in for a hug.
"Jen are you okay?" he said concerned. "I was so worried that I had said something wrong-" but Nick was stopped mid-sentence by Jen who held up a hand.
Jen, with her head still down and her hair around her face keeping her features in shadow, sighed. "No, it's okay. It was my fault that I walked out. It's just-" she took another breath. "I have been going through some stuff and I...I just couldn't deal with the moment we were having. We were just having fun, and I ruined it," she dropped her hand and brought her head up and her orange blue eyes glistened in the dim light. "I'm sorry."
Nick staggered and opened his mouth to speak but closed it. He didn't know how to respond.
Cy, watching from the bed, straightened herself and got up off the bed walking to the side of Nick and pulled his arm back slightly, telling him he should back up. Jen looked at her and dropped her blanket and held it in her arms.
"Jen do you want to talk about it?" Cy asked.
Jen slightly shook her head, and gave a small smile. "No. I'm fine."
Cy respected her decision and hugged her. "Okay, then," she backed away and looked at Nick for some assistance but he was by the window looking at the moon. "So what do you say you guys sleep over and we watch some movies?" Cy suggested to both of them.
Nick turned around and Jen flung the blanket onto Cy's bed, "Sure." Jen and Nick said in unison.
Cy smiled and went into the hallway. "I'll be right back," she said. "I'm going to get more blankets." The last part of her words faded as she walked out the room.
Cy came back in the room with more blankets in her hands, and was welcomed by Nick eating a bag of her Doritos. "Nick?!" she questioned. "Wha-how did you find those? You know those were in my secret stash." Cy raised an eyebrow at Nick.
His mouth had a half-eaten chip in it when Cy had walked in, he set it down caught guilty as he looked at Cy's face. "Sorry," he said, apologetic. "You just had them in a box with all your other Doritos and flaming hot Cheetos-"
"Yeah because they're my favorite-you know what," she drew in a breath, "Just have them." Cy gave Nick a playful grin and a friendly annoyed roll-of-the-eyes. She walked over to the bed to a wrapped up Jen in the brown blanket from earlier. Cy placed the blankets from her hands, and set them on the bed "I have plenty others anyway." She said back to Nick.
"Yeah. I saw." Nick said under his breath taking another bite of the nacho chip.
Just then a cat pushed in through her door and made them all jump. "meow!"
"Destiny!" The dark grey cat strolled in and jumped on her bed. Cy picked up the fluffy Destiny and scratched behind cat's ears, making her purr.
Jen, puzzled, looked at Nick, who was squinting at the cat, then back at Cy. "When did you get a cat?" She leaned over to look Destiny.
Cy stopped scratching Destiny's ear and just played with then. "I found her in a box in the park. She was under a bench. She was abandoned supposedly." Cy hugged the cat. "So I took her in."
Jen looked at the cat, puzzled, but then smiled as she saw the way the cat looked at her; it had soft black and gold eyes, with diamond dusted iris's, and she slowly blinked at her as if saying, I trust you. Jen reached out and petted Destiny's back and she felt her purr under her touch.
Nick, standing in the far side of the room, made a soft, deep sound in his throat. Cy whipped her head to him with a raised eyebrow. "What's up with you? It's just a cat. What did you develop an allergy or something?" Cy looked at him as Jen still petted Destiny, staying out of the conversation.
Nick raised both eyebrows. "No!" He crossed his arms. "I just don't like cats and cats don't like me." He stated.
Jen stopped petting Destiny as Cy walked to Nick with Destiny in her arms. "Here, pet her."
Nick uncrossed his arms and backed up, with wide eyes. "Uh, Cy what are you doing?" He backed up but stopped because his back was already up to a wall.
Cy held out the cat out to him, indicating to him he should pet it. "Here. It's just Destiny. She won't bite."
Nick was tense and he shook his head. "No. I'm good," his voice was flat.
Cy tilted her head to the side, "Come on, she's sweet."
Destiny looked at Nick as Nick looked at Destiny. Their eyes locked and Nick saw a galaxy of stars in her eyes, she didn't react to him, at all. He released the tense in his body slowly as Destiny blinked at him. She was cute. For a cat, Nick thought.
"Uh, okay," he reached out his hand slowly, uncertain and brushed Destiny ears. She closed her eyes as she purred under Nicholas's hand. He smiled. "Huh," he said as he continued to scratch her ears. Cy handed Destiny to Nick, with a smile.
Cy walked to Jen who was on the bed, and snatched the remote off her desk and switched on the netscreen to a random movie.
