"Nothing ever happened between Kevin and I. We have been just friends for years," Bessie explained for the umpteenth time to Harry.
"Are you just saying that to make me feel better?" Harry asked again.
"I am sure," Bessie said in annoyance.
"How come you've never talked about him before?" Harry asked shocking Bessie with a new question.
"Um, he has done some things that made me want to forget him," Bessie said still in shock.
"Tell me what he did and I'll make him pay," Harry said as he rolled his sleeves up.
"Harry! The past is past. Please, just forget it," Bessie said as she got up to get more wine.
"Bets. He is another man in your life that hurt you. How can I heel all your wounds if I don't know them?" Harry said looking deep into Bessie's eyes. Bessie looked back into Harry's eyes with happiness that one man in her life wants to help her, not break her.
Bessie sat down and slowly said, "Well, before he went to college, he got drunk. He came to me because I was the only person he trusted. Nothing happened that night, but in the morning, it was like he was another person. He pushed Lacie to the ground. Hard. She got bruises. I told him I didn't want him around the kids anymore and he flipped out. He called me a hoe. He even threatened to take away Robert and Lacie once he became a lawyer. I knew that it was just his scholarship getting to him, but he, um, he..."
Bessie started to cry as the words found themselves stuck in her throat.
"Hey, Bets, it's OK," Harry said as he pulled Bessie to his lap and held her tightly.
"You know how I named Lacie, Lacie May?" Bessie asked once she could speak through her tears.
"Yeah..." Harry said as he tried to calm Bessie.
"May was my best friend. We have been friends for what feels like eternity. I didn't really meet her brother till I joined the high school band. He was on the drum line with me. May's brother is Kevin. When I got pregnant, May and Kevin were the only ones supportive of me and talked me out of abortion. She was as good as a friend could be in my situation. Whenever some random strange would judge me, she would tell them off. But she didn't live to see Robert and Lacie's third birthday," Bessie cried.
It was a good minute before Bessie spoke again.
"She loved your music. For her 18th birthday, I was going to get her tickets to one of your concerts. She would sing your songs to Robert and Lacie. May had the voice of an angel," Bessie cried harder.
"What happened to her?" Harry asked knowing that the way May died hurt Bessie very badly.
"May went to visit Kevin at Stamford. Kevin thought it would be OK to take her to a college party. There, Kevin convinced May to drink and they both got drunk by the time the party was over. There wasn't a sober driver around so Kevin decided to drive them back to his apartment. He crashed on the way there killing May," Bessie said as a new round of tears came.
"Oh Bets. I'm so sorry," Harry said as he held back tears of anger.
He did not want Kevin around to ruin Bessie's life anymore.
"The worst part is that May died before she found out she was going to be a teen mom with me," Bessie bawled.
Harry felt a dagger go through his heart.
"How could Kevin do that?" Harry almost yelled.
"Kevin wrote a letter to me telling me that he was so sorry. Said that he could never face me again. He wrote that he made some horrible mistakes and asked if I could ever forgive him. He understood if I couldn't. But I did. I forgave him. But I told him that I couldn't be near him till the wounds healed. Till I could forgive him and myself," Bessie sobbed, "May was going to have a girl."
Harry knew Bessie's heart. She could forgive almost anyone. Almost.
Harry sat on their couch with Bessie cradled in his arms with silence wrapped around them.
"You know, May always talked about how much she loved the name Martha. She would have named her girl that. I just know it," Bessie broke the silence.
"Well I promise you this, once we get married and decide to have kids on our own, we will name our first girl Martha," Harry smiled down at Bessie.
"We could call her Marty for short," Bessie smiled back.
"I could think of nothing better," Harry said as he kissed Bessie's forehead.
"I know this is a bad time, but we never had a real kiss yet," Bessie shyly said.
Harry smiled down at Bessie. The girl in his arms made his life complete. Her grey eyes were still wet and swollen from crying. Tear streaks were on her cheeks by the dozen. Harry placed his palm against her wet face and leaned in till their foreheads touched. He could feel Bessie's hot breath against his lips. The last time he was in this position, things did not end too well.
Bessie's breath smelled of strawberries. Harry liked strawberries. Harry laughed lightly. After several minutes of this position, Harry finally went in for a kiss.
The moment his lips touch Bessie's passion filled Harry. Never had he wanted a girl as badly as he wanted Bessie right then. Her kiss was intoxicating. Harry just could not get enough. Without thought, Harry lifted Bessie off his lap and laid her underneath him. Bessie started to tense up a little, but soon relaxed once Harry's strong arms found their way around Bessie's waist.
Harry soon let his old player moves get the better of him as he started to slowly move his hands up Bessie's shirt. Bessie immediately stopped kissing Harry and shoved his hands away. Harry look at Bessie in shock as she got up and poured herself a large glass of wine. The poor girl downed the glass in seconds.
"Bets?" Harry asked.
"I'm sorry Harry but I'm not ready for that. The first time was not a very pleasant one and I want to try to wait till I'm actually married," Bessie said with her speech slurring a little.
"No, it's my fault. I guess not all the player is out of me yet," Harry said as he led the tipsy Bessie up stairs to her room.
"You are a great guy. You know that right?" Bessie said as she leaned her head against Harry's shoulder as they climbed the stairs.
"You're pretty great yourself," Harry smiled as Bessie snuggled deep into her duvet.
Harry smiled to himself as he saw Bessie fall asleep into a peaceful world. A world were May and her daughter were still alive. Where Lacie could be a real princess. Robert could have his own dinosaur. He and Bessie could make passionate love. Harry may have changed, but not all the way. He needed to be with Bessie. Physically, mentally, anyway and all ways possible. Harry needed love. Hot, passionate love. And he needed it now.

Author's Note- I know I updated it twice yesterday, but I'm just in a writing mood. A chapter very close in the future is going to reveal something about Niall you don't want to miss so keep an eye out. It's gonna cause some tension between him and Ell. Oh, and her parents, George and Crystal Harrison, only George Harrison actually exists. I will write a story about them too. I promise it will not be boring. Thanks for reading!
