*Near's POV*

Me: Hello, Anything. And no, you may not speak in inaccurate grammar, for it is necessary to improve your English from being in Japan for so long, and because it is very "cringy," as the children here starts to say.

Thief: really sheepboy? You know that word? Well then, far, imma goin to text in incorrect grammar cuz it annoyyyyyyyys u. So too baaaaaaad, ya sheep!

Me: I'll just call you instead.

Thief: sure, call me right now. But don't u hav to eat dinner soon?

Me: Thank you for your concern. However, there is no need for me to eat dinner right away.

Calling Thief....

Rinnnnnnng

Rinnnnng.

"Hello?"

"Near, don't tell me you became anorexic! That's not a good thing!"

"No, I haven't became anorexic."

"Aw, I know you feel lonely without me, but try to survive! I mean, I know Mello hates you, but maybe try making friends with Matt?"

"Matt doesn't care. And I don't trust anybody. Not even inanimate objects. Anything can betray me."

"Aw, sheep boy, don't be like that! I'm still your friend, even from this far away. Heh heh, punny puns. You trust me right?"

I stay silent.

Maybe. Maybe not. I haven't seen her for a while now, who knows what she can do.

"Near? Oh, cmon! Friendship can't blossom without trust!"

"But you never wanted to be friends with me. You were forced to be by L."

"Wha-"

"I heard what L recorded for you. I was outside your room, asking if you wanted to stay at my dorm to sleep, but when I heard L's computerized voice it sparked my interest. I known our friendship was forced, but your company was really good so I allowed you to stay in my life. However, I don't think you'd want to be friends with someone like me anymore."

"Look Near, even before L told me to befriend you, I always wanted to befriend you. That's why I bought you those lotto tickets."

"And that's why I call you thief."

"And even though you never returned my favorite chair, I still wanted to befriend you. You were interesting, and wanted to follow me on my, um... Thievery, and even if I'm not your friend. You are my friend."

"But do you trust me?"

"I..." She stammered. She hesitated. "Yes, of course I do."

"You hesitated. Do you really trust me?"

"I...yes. Do you not trust me?"

"No, I don't trust you. You did a lot of crimes, and even know my real name. I do not know if I can trust you with that information. You might be working for Kira. If you are, you could threaten me. As long as I know this fact, I cannot trust you."

"I see Near. I see how it is."

"It's no different from your side either. You don't trust me either. It's ok, I wouldn't trust someone with no emotions either."

"But, you do have emotion. You just hide it really well. I saw the tiniest smile when we were playing with action figures that one day. You're not some robot, no matter how much you want to be. We're both humans, not machines. You should show some more emotion. I got to go, bye." She hung up.
