"That's what he meant by under-stand! While in the library getting that stupid swan book I saw the symbols matching the books under the stand, since this book doesn't have a symbol on it, we must have to look under the stand to get the key in the book?" I say of course Judas has to be the bearer of bad news as always,
"How is finding the symbol supposed to help?" He asks.
"That's right, Green Eyes, I forgot you do not have my brain capacity," I say with a smile to let him know I am not serious,
"Maybe instead of the symbol we will find something else under there, or maybe we have to draw the symbol in??? We at least have to try.." I say, losing confidence the more I talk.
"What about Mrs. Delwinger? She is still in there remember? We can't exactly let her go..."We reach the desolate library yet again, to see Mrs.Delwinger rattling the door knob, trying anything to escape. We approach the door making her step back,
"Don't move, or we will be forced to use violence." Judas says with a hard commanding tone, it even makes me take a half step away.
"Don't get any ideas Wingerdel, Judas is going to keep a close eye on you while I go about our business." I say cryptically. We enter the room, leaving the door unlocked, but closed. As we reach the stand, I have Judas stand behind me, using his broad chest to shield her view of seeing what we were doing. I ignore the warmth emanating from Judas and look under the stand. I am about to lose hope when a small latch , no bigger than my thumb, brushes my fingertips. As soon as I grasp the small handle, I pull it, and here a small resounding thunk in response. Judas turns wants he hears my small gasp and something slides out and lands in the palm of my hand. Before I can examine the small object, we hear the sound of the door being opened and closed as Wingerdel escapes.
"Fudge nuggets!" I say as we both sprint after her. Me putting the small object in my secret pocket in my shirt. As she reaches the outer library door, Judas and I are too far away, and soon all that is occupying the library is the smell of musty books, hard breathing, and the sound of our footsteps as adrenaline fills our bodies and we finally gain the energy we need to open the door, and slow our steps to match that of the students roaming the halls to get to their extra curricular classes. We shove through them all, catching sight of her bun through the bustle of the crowd and my heart picks up as the chase is on. We are forced back by the security at the main door,
"Only teachers and staff are allowed in and out through these doors, you know this." Says the gruff voiced guard.
As Wingerdel chances a look back, a satisfied smirk creeps its way along the edges of her mouth, she believes she has escaped the chase. If only she realized the real chase, was just beginning.
