Judas and I send the plan in motion, we hurriedly bustle about trying to get the remaining things together that we need.
"You ready to go? If we are going to get your noisy arse out undetected we're going to need to make sure we have plenty of time." Hey says amusedly.
"Only you could think of a terrible comeback at a time like this, and have the actual guts to use it." I say satisfied with my response, but my confidence quickly fades away as we both know how serious the situation is getting.
As we switch into our business modes, I block out the anxiety and doubt that is creeping up the back of my mind and focus on what we need to do.
In reality of our bustling it was really only 1 minute, as we need to get out of the building as fast as possible and follow her to the People. As we go through my window, and down the rugged and rotted lattice, I glimpse her tight bun bobbing in the distance.
"Hurry you oaf she is getting away too fast! She is leaving the gates!" I whispered maniacally to Judas.
"If you weren't so busy looking around like an insanee out of an asylum you'd realize I have been on the ground for the last 30 seconds as you are swinging around 1 foot off of the ground like you ran a marathon." Judas says whilst glaring at me.
"Oaf my ass" he grumbles beneath his breathe. I pay him and his vulgar language no attention as we pick up speed to follow after the wench. As we reach the fork in the road, I notice her veering off into the woods surrounding the school. Almost as if she is back tracking to the school. Just as she makes it to the brick wall surrounding the school grounds, I notice her pull out a random brick and see a door open up in a tree 4 feet away from her as I see her rush inside as it whooshes close behind her. As we take a minute to openly gape at what just happened, we pick our jaws off of the floor and hurry to get moving and find that brick. After touching about 17 random bricks we find the right one and the tree opens up.
"Ladies first..." Judas states.
"Now your manners come out" I scoff, mostly from nerves.
I take a weary step through the tree, just as I step through, judas and I share a moment of horror as the tree closes from behind me leaving me alone with Judas on the other side.
My heart rate picks up and I feel my heart pit pattering against my sternum as I take wary steps down an actual stone tunnel. The deeper I go the more the air thins and gets really thin. By the time I reach the door, I am gasping for breathe and my mind is getting fuzzy as I lose my focus for a moment. As I take a minute to regain my breathing and to clear my head, I hear a familiar voice through the door. Without thinking I barge through.
"Well, well, well... I am glad you could finally join us Skyla! I must say I am very pleased with you coming so.....precisely." Says a hooded figure. As I analyze the room I notice there are two hooded figures, the one speaking through a voice modifier the other not talking at all. I look around and see Isla behind them. She looks fine and unharmed, heck she ain't even tied up!
"Give her to me." I try and say commandingly, but I think it comes out more like a hushed statement.
"Now, now, don't get hostile," hooded figure 1 says. "We simply just wanted to get you here alone. Before you interrupt I will explain to you exactly what is happening. #1 the People don't exist, you can stop gaping at me like a fish and listen. #2 Your friend is unharmed, we just asked her to help us bring you here, pretending to have her go missing was just a bonus. We are the Ingumm. You cannot know who we are, so I apologize in advance. Before I tell you what I need to tell you, any questions? Preferably ones only pertaining to the current dilemma, not of the game itself." He says.
"Give me my friend for starters."
"She can go when she likes, it is her choice now I am not holding her back." Sure enough Isla slowly makes her way over.
"Next, in the note from the people, why did you ask for my clues than? And why would Mrs. Wingerdel go all crazy and be like a banshee?"
"Ahh, excellent questions. As for the clues we just needed to know you were destroying them, and we had to make it sound like we were actually wanting something from you. As for the second question, we needed her to bring you to us, we couldn't risk having anyone, not even the headmaster could actually know where we are to meet you and when. Her son did die yes, but she wants to help kids succeed, not...."
"Why would she help you? You people killed her son!" That is where my nerves came back ful force as my bravado failed me. I am in a room alone with murderers!
"Before you faint, I would like to say that we are not the reason those kids went through there... Misfortunes. You best remember that. Isla, leave the room." No, I nod my head at her and mouth, please stay!
I can't. She says in return.
"The time is nearing Skyla. We give you the last clue. Do not open it until you are in the privacy of your room. Do not tell anyone you have it, not even Judas. We noticed you guys have gotten really close lately, and we would like you to KEEP THE INFORMATION TO YOURSELF, if we wanted them to play, we would have chosen them, not you. Now disregard your last two clues, they were just to lead you here, for all that matters is this last clue. Now leave, we will send for you when you must guess. This is your last clue. Your last truth. Your last hope and your last chance. Fair well and see you soon."I reach for the clue with shaking hands, timidly wrapping my hands around the one thing that decides my fate. I rush out of the room slipping the clue in my hidden shirt pocket along with the object that was under the stand. Even though it was just a piece of paper, all the way through the dark tunnel with Isla at my side, I felt alone and as if I was carrying a 566 lbs weight on my side.
