Eleanor’s POV

*knock knock*

I got up from my couch and walked over to the creamed coloured door. My fingers grasped the handle and turned it.

Standing there with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen is no other than Liam Payne.

“Come in,” I said, leading him to the couch. Liam took a seat, his smile still plastered on his face.

“So…” I prompted. Liam turned his head and stared at me, his smile suddenly fading.

“What?” he asked innocently.

“What do you mean ‘what?’? What happened between you and Dani?” I said.

“Oh… that. She said yes!! Can you believe it?!” Liam and I hugged and jumped up and down in joy.

“I’m so happy for you, Liam! You two are so cute together!” I complimented. It was true. Even though Dani and Liam have only known each other for a day, they were perfection together. Besides looking great together, they both had similar personalities.

“Now, what about you?” Liam questioned.

“Me? What about me?” I asked, acting all innocent like he did for me.

“C’mon, stop that. I know you like Louis.”  I gasped. How did he know that? Wait what? I don’t like Louis.

“I don’t. And who told you?” I said.

“No one had to tell me,” Liam explained. “I see the way you look at him.” My cheeks grew hot.

 “I don’t like him,” I said stubbornly.

“Yes you do,” Liam teased.

“No I don’t.”

“Yes you do.”

“I don’t”

“Okay, fine,” Liam said; his hands in the air in surrender.

“But you do,” he whispered, smirking at me. I sighed.

“Can we just go do our science project?”

*After science project is finished*

“I’m gonna go now,” Liam said as he stood up.

“Do you want me to drive you home?” I offered. It was already 8 pm and Liam lived 10 minutes away, but I didn’t want him to go alone.

“Nah, it’s alright,” he said.

“Are you sure?”

“Actually,” Liam said, blushing, “my sisters are picking me up.”

“Oh. I didn’t know you had sisters.”

“I have two; Nicola and Ruth. Nicola’s 21 and Ruth is 20. They wanted to spend more time with me… so… that’s why they’re picking me up…” Liam’s face was still bright red. I laughed.

“That’s sweet,” I said. My eyes started at the floor and sucked in breath. I breathed out and blurted, “Do you think there’s a chance for me and Louis?”

Liam’s eyes stared at me in shock. “What?”

“I-I’m sorry,” I stuttered. “I shouldn’t have asked that.”

“No, no,” Liam assured, “I just wasn’t expecting that.” An awkward moment of silence passed by when I finally spoke again.

“So, do you? You know, think there’s a chance?” I asked.

“Anything’s possible,” Liam said, “and I really do think there’s a chance. Just not right now.”

“Why not?” What did he mean ‘not right now’?

“Um… Louis… he has… a…” Liam mumbled the last bit.

“He has a what?”

“El, what I’m going to tell you now will hurt you. But I don’t want you to get hurt,” Liam said, his warm brown eyes staring into mine.

“Tell me. Please tell me. It’s not going to hurt me, I swear,” I insisted. I’ve only experience an emotional pain once, and I don’t plan on another soon.

Liam sighed at my persistence. Eventually, he gave in and said, “Louis has a girlfriend, Eleanor.”

My heart felt as if it had shattered into a million pieces. No, it felt more like a trillion pieces, and the pieces came back to stab me in the chest. Tears welled up in my eyes but I held back, blinking furiously.

“I’m so sorry, El,” Liam whispered.

“No,” I sniffled, “it’s not your fault.” I was saved by a honk outside.

“My sisters are here,” Liam said, picking up his backpack. I followed him outside where a large white car was parked.

Two young girls with short blonde hair were sitting in the front seats, both smiling at Liam.

One of them said, “Aren’t you going to introduce us, Liam?” while the other one giggled.

“Oh, sorry. Eleanor, this is Nicola,” Liam said, pointing to Nicola, “and Ruth,” as he pointed to Ruth.

“It’s nice to meet you both,” I said and smiled. Liam hopped into the car and said, “Bye, El. I’ll see you tomorrow,” and waved goodbye as the car drove away. The minute the car disappeared, I ran into my house and into my room, locked the door and collapsed onto my bed for a long cry into my pillow. Tears keep pouring out and I heard my mother knock on my door, but I ignored it.

I just wanted to be alone for now.
