(Slight violence and cursing in this)

Peyton has been bothering me all week. First I'm a mute. Then I talk too much. Then I'm ugly. Then the next day he makes a crude remark about my body.

Corey hasn't said much to me. He tried to get my attention before but I kind of ignored him. I think my actions are justified considering he's been ignoring me for two years. After trying to contact him again and again, I finally gave up.

I'm on my way to school again and I hear shuffling. I turn around and I see Peyton 5 feet behind me.

"Hey, stop!" He shouted and I just quicken my pace hoping he'll get the idea.

I felt a hand forcefully pull my shoulder back. "I was talking to you mute." He said inches away from my face.

"Um, well I-" I was cut off by being shoved into the wall behind me.

"Why are you doing this to me?" I asked wincing because my head hit the wall.

"Because you're you." He said with a smirk. "Worthless." Wow, he's such an airhead.

"Coming from the guy who get joy from picked my on someone smaller than him? You're going to need a better explanation dude." I sassed.

His eyes went darker and held my face forcefully, squeezing so tight tears trailed down my face. "Don't be a smartass, now here's how things are going to go. You don't talk back to me because you're a nothing, got it? You don't matter."

A whine escaped my throat and I just nodded. I'm so sick of people walking on me, but what can I do? I guess I am nothing.

Peyton continued his walk to school and I just stood there. I took slow steps taking in extra appreciation of the surrounding environment.

I see school and put up my hood to try and hide my face a bit, there's no denying it looks horrible right now because of Peyton's monster grip.

I walk into class right before the bell rings.

"Alright class settle down. Today we're going to do a trust exercise. You and the person behind you will partner up and go somewhere in the school alone. Than you'll write each others biggest insecurity on your forehead.

Be back in 15 minutes! You don't have to participate but whoever completes the assignment will receive extra credit."

I looked behind me at Corey and wordlessly we both rose, grabbed a market, and left the room. On my way out Peyton tripped me and I fell on my ass.

"Hey man, what the hell is your problem?" Corey asked him. "Nothing, mind your business!" Peyton came back with.

"Whatever, hey are you okay?" Corey asked helping me up. "Yeah, I'm fine thanks."

We walked in silence to the media center and sat on the bean bags.

Corey took my hand and looked into my eyes. "Listen, I'm so sorry for leaving you."

"You know I can't just forgive you like that, right?" I asked. How could I? He put me through way too much pain to just push it all under the rug and forget it.

"And why not?" He asked while crinkling his eyebrows and I swear I almost think his eyes are watering.

"Corey, I had no one. Did you know my mom left? Did you know my dad is never home anymore? Did you know I edit pictures for a local magazine now?"

"I had no idea. I didn't mean to miss out on these parts of your life." He said with such compassion I find it hard to not believe him.

"Than why did you? These past two years have made a completely different person. Who's to say you'll even want to know me the way I am now?" He had so much time and so many chances to reconnect with me.
