Sorry it's taken me a long time to update I'm on holiday and having writers block ... Sorry updates will hopefully be more Regular next week when I'm home from holiday.

As he slammed the front door, nearly taking it off the hinges, Connie instantly regretted the fact that she'd yet again pushed someone away- someone that she truly loved. she had lost another piece to her family puzzle and it was all her fault .She knew her anger towards him was more about her building frustration and upset towards the situation with Grace and as much as she wanted to tell him that, to run after him and get him back, she simply didn't have the strength too.

Connie was desperate for happiness but unable to accept that she deserved it. She'd spent the night convincing herself that Jacob keeping his distance would be best for them both despite how much she wanted and needed him. As painful as it was, she listened intently to his car as it left her drive and continued down the road, leaving her sat quietly, alone, with tears falling helplessly.

As he walked through the department doors, he was greeted with a familiar smell in the ED- a contrast of the bleach like substances used to sterilise equipment and the unpleasant stench of blood and sick that radiated from patients. He knew it would be a busy day, and while he'd normally embrace the challenge, today all he wanted to do was walk back out and return to Connie. Strutting towards the staff room in an oblivion ; nearly colliding with Robyn carrying a kidney dish on route , to start his shift a few hours earlier .

She had spent the last few hours sat, leaning against the front door, hugging her knees tightly to her chest, wanting and waiting for him to come home and comfort her. She predicted he wouldn't be back until around 9pm. Though his shift was finishing at 6, she assumed that after their argument this morning, he'd try and avoid her tonight, waiting until she'd calmed down and gotten over it.

She replayed the words they'd exchanged and kicked herself for thinking that pushing him away would be best. She didn't mean what she said and she prayed that Jacob would know that. Throughout the day, she'd attempted to keep busy but she found herself checking her phone every few minutes, desperate for him to contact her. There was never anything, no calls or messages and soon enough she'd come to expect disappointment.

Jacob had been working constantly all afternoon, rushing in and out of the department to deal with patients. While trying to find a young woman that had left cubicles without being checked over, he ran into someone by reception. 'Watch it,' he muttered before glancing back to see who he'd collided with.

'You alright Jacob?' Charlie replied with a questioning expression. Diffusing the situation almost instantly with his wise and calm tone he spoke in.

His softening tone momentarily brought Jacob away from his state of frustration. 'Yeah, sorry Charlie, my bad, I wasn't looking,' he said sincerely. Jacob offered an awkward smile before hurrying to return to work although he didn't get very far before Charlie spoke again.

'Thought you had the day off?'

Slowly walking back to the older nurse, Jacob sighed to himself knowing Charlie would pry, encouraging him to talk about what was going on with Connie. Charlie was the only one in the hospital bar them selves who knew about their relationship ; partly because Charlie was looked upon from Connie as a farther figure so she trusted him not to talk but also because he was the one who had told her to give him a chance .

'Yeah I did , We were short staffed so Rita asked me to come in.'

Jacob waited for Charlie to ask about Connie or try and get to the bottom of what had got under his skin but no such question came.
