Shane's POV:
I pull back the bowstring trying to ignore the beauty of this particular beast. It has a long horn, and if course in a silvery shade as all others. But this unicorn's entire body is a shocking, stark white. It's magnificent coat stands out against the surrounding dark forests greatly. I wait for the right moment to send the arrow flying towards the creature's heart. It is a shame that this had to be my destiny, killing off some of the most amazing living things on this planet.
I let the arrow fly, as soon as the creature stands still, gracefully stretching it's neck. The arrow shoots out, true as can be. The unicorn looks me in the eye for a second, the pain quite apparent. I watch as it falls to the ground. Unlike the others, this one does not winnie or nay at it's own pain and ending. It falls to the ground, silently.
Easy kill. I stride towards the fallen unicorn, epinepherone flowing through my veins. The unicorn actually lifts iself from the ground as I approach, only a few feet away. I had hardly drawn my knife from my belt loop before it had run twenty yards. I pulled my bow back down from shoulder, setting an arrow subconciously. I watched the way the unicorn was angling. It was out of sight, but I had a guess, a gut feeling that I knew exactly where the unicorn would be heading.
Instead of following it's very messy and tell tale trail, I took the short way to the nearest swamp and climbed an oak tree. A few minutes later, the same mystical unicorn walks into my line of sight. One of the problems with unicorns is that they heal extremely fast, and some have enough will power, like this one, to get right back up whenn they are injured. That was a rare case, though.
My breath hitches again, as I watch the creature before me lift her head to the full moon, baying gently. Not in pain or displeasure, but simply creating an almost musical sound. I let loose another arrow, just as the unicorn looks back into my eyes. It falls, and I draw my knife while sprinting to it's side.
I pull out a small, white, cotton sheet to carry the unicorn body in, back to the cabin. I start to drag it onto the shoot, about to slit it's throat, when an odd noise starts to resonate in my ears. Almost like wind chimes, but fainter, gentler.
I look back at the unicorn, away from the pale, cratered moon. Instead of a unicorn, a girl starts to appear before my eyes. I am astounded, as she grabs the corners of the sheets, covering herself in the thin material. She pulls the arrow from her shoulder and chucks it at me half heartedly. She glares at me, breathing heavily, as blood starts to stain the sheet, from the base of her shoulder, right above her heart. Her head abruptly falls to one side, against the damp leaves covering the forest floor. Her eyes flutter shut, and I snatch the girl up, sheets and all, into my arms.
I start to run to the cabin, leaving behind my knife, arrow, and satchel.
Upon entrance, I drop all of my remaining weaponry, and rush to the dining room table. I set unicorn girl down.
"Mom! Dad! Aunt Jillian! Someone! HELP!!!" and of course, I have to run around the house, trying to find anyone, but alas, we are all alone. Great. Leave the hunter to save the . . . Prey?
I snatched a first aid book from in one of the three cupboards in our kitchen. I studied a few pages, including the index. There were absolutely no instructions on how to treat a unicorn girl who you just shot with an iron headed arrow, lined in silver. Maybe normal procedures would help . . . There were not any instructions on arrow wounds, whatsoever. Maybe I should have paid a bit more attention during training on the medical information.
From the few shreds of infprmation I have on how to take care of this- any situation, I have a guess on supplies to gather. I go for Neosporin, peroxide, those wrap band aids, and a ton of painkillers.
Time to get to work.
