Shane's POV:
Unicorn girl comes out of the bathroom, dressed in my younger cousin's clothing. Though she is thin, Tina's clothes aren't enough to cover the full length of unicorn girl. She is just too tall. She subconciously pulls back some of her long, light locks, stretching her neck. Although she is human, I can't help but remember the same way she stretched her neck as a unicorn, right before I shot her. I feel like a monster, now that I know I nearly killed another human.
The bright orange skinny jeans fit snuggly against unicorn girl's legs, and the black hoodie was even a tight fit. She looks uncomfortable, surrounded by so many strangers, whom I have to call my family.
Lilith looks into my eyes for a moment, pulling my gaze from the mysterious unicorn girl.
"We need to talk, Shane," she fake smiles. Lilith's false kindnes infuriates me.
Lilith leads me into the storage cellar for our talk.
"Mother, I swear we didn't do . . . anything! We didn't have . . . any-"
"I know, Shane. What I wanted to discuss was your little friend, Cheyenne," she lets her words seep into my ears like poison in my veins. "When were you going to tell me that you shot her, failing to kill a unicorn for the first time?" She looks at me expectantly.
"She isn't a unicorn!" At first I want to come to Cheyenne's defense, instincively. It is like I have no choice in how I feel about her safety. Then again, surely my family didn't know that humans could turn into unicorns, too? Cneyenne did say that she was the only one, but I saw through her lie, so she obviously thought I would go after whoever she was gaurding.
"You seriously thought that I would really believe you were taking some random girl's virg-"
"You said that! Not me, let alone Cheyenne!"
"Someone is awfully defensive about a unicorn," and the sly vulture continues to pry. "I am taking her to the mall, so everything will be fine, Shane. You have nothing to worry about."
"She was worried that you would kill her! That is why Cheyenne wouldn't fess up."
"If she thinks I still don't know about her little secret, we should keep it that way. She would feel more comfortable that way, would she not?" I suppose she has a point, so I shrug uncommittingly. "It's sttled then! It's a girl's night out! Go do something useful Shane!" With that, Lilith prances of to take poor Cheyenne shopping. May the lord have mercy on her unicorn heart!
I could hardly grasp the concept of how Tina had survived so many of those ridiculous shopping trips that Lilith always dragged her on. Lilith loved to blow money, especially on clothes, or things we didn't need. And God knows we didn't have the money Lilith's budget liked to dance around. That was a huge part of how we had started hunting anyways. Some of a majority of my familie's old habbits had gotten me stuck in the unicorn hunting business.
I watched Lilith and Cheyenne head to Lilith's shiny, cherry convertible. She practically thrust Cheyenne into the passenger seat. I watch desperately, as the small vehicle is backed out of the long, winding path we call a driveway.
