"Are you and Niall available tomorrow?" Rose asked. We were at her house, painting our nails and having a sleepover with just us girls. Even though I was fully concentrated on painting my nails correctly, I noticed the shy look on her face.
"Yeah, I think so. Why?" She sighed and brought her knees to her chest. I watched as she bit her lip, clearly hesitant on her answer. "Oh for Pete's sake Rose! Spit it out."
"Well, I was just wondering if you guys would like to double date with me...and this guy."
"What!?" I yelled, jumping out of the canopy bed and onto the floor. Rose put a finger to her lips, signaling me to quiet down. My eyes narrowed at her. "Don't give me any of that 'be quiet' business. You were single two days ago!"
"I was getting to that before you yelled in my ear." She rolled her eyes before continuing. "And calm down! It's not like he asked me to be his girlfriend or anything."
"I thought the same thing with Niall, but look at where we are now. So, I have a huge reason to freak out." As I looked down on my nails, I noticed that most of the polish had spread out of the nail and onto my fingers. "Shoot! It took me forever on this hand."
Rose snickered at me as I removed the strong scented colors, earning a hostile glare. She backtracked and continued to flip through a fashion magazine before directing my attention.
"He and I met yesterday, when I was getting medicine for the killer hangover I got from the party. I couldn't reach the top shelf, so he went over and got the medicine for me." I saw the dreamy look in her eyes as she smiled lightly, eyes casted down to the magazine. "At first, he teased me about my height, saying that five foot five was short. You could say that it was his way of flirting."
"I was just about to walk off when he called my name. Thinking it was another chance of him making fun of me, I gave him the finger." Rose started laughing then as she reminisced on the past. My hand reached for the bowl of popcorn as she gathered enough control of her giggles to continue. "You should have seen his face, Elizabeth! I don't even know how to describe it."
"Well, I'm pretty sure some of it was shock, because I wouldn't be too happy if someone did that to me." I said, thinking about how if I stuck my finger at Niall within the first day of knowing each other, how would he react. A few seconds passed before I shook my head, ridding the thought. Ever since we admitted what we really felt for each other, the thought of him invaded every aspect of my mind. It was as if everything in this world makes me think of him.
"Hello? Elizabeth? Are you listening to me?" Rose threw popcorn kernels on my face, one grazing my eyelid. She laughed as I threw them back with an irritated look. "Now that I got your attention want to hear how he asked me out?"
She dove into the conversation as soon as I nodded my head, "After he realized that I was mistaken, he continued by saying he was only joking about my height and that he's sorry. Then, he asked if I want to go on a date and I said yes."
"That's great Rose! But, where do me and Niall fit in this situation?"
"Elizabeth, you know I haven't dated a guy before and this is my first time to go with someone. I'm so scared and worried! Like what if there are awkward pauses, what if we have nothing in common? I want you and Niall to come with us to make sure there are no awkward moments." Rose clasped her hands together as she spoke in a pleading tone. "Please Elizabeth! I would do it for you...."
"Of course we will go with you! Just give me the time and place. It's tomorrow right?" My friend nodded her head. Her smile could've lit up a stormy night, she was so happy. But there was one question that lingered in my head. "Wait, who is he?"
