I felt myself grow paler at the sight of Niall and his friend making their way into the shop. Niall winked at me as he passed by before sitting down in the booth right across from ours.
"Hello? Elizabeth? You look like you're about to pass out." Rose said. She hadn't seen anything wrong with the two boys sitting near us, but I did.
"I-I'm fine, it's j-just that guy I was talking to you about is right across from us." I managed to stutter out as quietly as I could.
Rose swiftly turned her head to the direction I was repeatedly glancing at. Her lips were parted in shock as she turned back to me, surprise clear on her face.
"How did he know you were here?!" My worried friend whispered fiercely. From the corner of my eye, I could see Niall staring at me. He leaned across the booth and whispered something to his friend, who looked just as shocked as Rose.
"You're interested in someone?! I never thought I'd live to see the day." His light blue-eyed friend hushed and I could hear the humor in his voice.
"Very funny, Louis. But, all jokes aside, yes I am and she's sitting right there." Niall tilted his head over to where I was. My blood pounded in my veins at rapid speed, fear and adrenaline coursing through my system when I realized that Niall did want to see me again soon.
"I don't know, but if you don't mind, I'd like to get out of here." I answered Rose's earlier question, tuning Niall's conversation out. She sent me a wordless nod and we swiftly gathered our things.
Both of us stood up and were about to bolt out the door, when I felt someone's hand slip into mine. I looked up, bewildered. Again, I was greeted by the same stunning blue eyes. A gasp fell past my lips, my mind completely taken away by their beauty.
They're even better up close.
My thoughts were then interrupted by Niall clearing his throat.
"I thought I'd be seeing you again." He said with a smile. "I couldn't get you out of my head ever since I left the coffee shop."
I blushed, clearly not expecting that kind of response coming from him.
"So..um...did you need anything?" I asked, trying to distract him from looking at my reddening cheeks.
"Yeah. I was actually going to ask you an important question."
"Oh really? And what question would that be?" There was an ice cold edge to my tone as I tried to let him know that I didn't want to be associated with him. My body began to fill with a new passion, completely drowning out the curiosity I felt towards the blonde. Trouble radiated off him in waves and I had no intention of being with him.
"You know, I'd like to invite you over, but I'm afraid you're so hot that you'll skyrocket my air-conditioning bill. Would you like to go on a date with me?" He asked, stuffing his hands into his pockets as he sheepishly looked down at me. I couldn't help but notice that his cheeks were now a light shade of red. It was obvious that he was embarrassed by his cheesy pickup line.
"Sorry Niall, but I don't really know you, so I don't feel comfortable going on a date with you." With that, I pursed my lips together and gave him a hard stare. The grin on his face dropped and I swear I saw the light in his eyes fade from my words.
"Please? Just for one date. It might change your mind about me."
"No. I don't want to." Determination dripped from my response. I folded my arms over my chest, attempting to shield myself from the effects of his vulnerable expression.
"Elizabeth," He pleaded, grabbing one of my hands in his warm ones. "I will kneel down right here and beg for you to say yes if you don't say it in the next 3 seconds. I know that we just met, but I won't hurt you. It's just one date and if it doesn't work out, then fine. We won't see each other ever again."
My mouth remained shut, the glare I was giving him not softening as he continued to hold my hand.
"3.....2..."
"Yeah right!" I scoffed, not believing that he would follow through with his threat.
Niall raised an eyebrow at me. Before I realized what he was doing, the pleading boy dramatically got down on one knee. He then took hold of both my hands and grasped them in his.
Oh great! He really was serious about this!
"Elizabeth, ever since I saw you in Starbucks, I couldn't stop thinking about you." Niall said as he stared deeply into my eyes. "Would you do me the honor of taking you on a date?"
By then, I had completely froze over. My mind was muddled as thoughts flew in and out of it, not knowing what to do.
How could I say no to the guy, especially since he was kneeling RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME and practically begging for a date. Oh, and lets not forget the large audience that he had attracted.
As I looked around, I saw the faces of strangers, their expressions clear with happiness.
What kind of person would I be if I rejected him in front of all these people?
I sighed to myself, giving him the answer he wanted.
"All right.. Yes, Niall, I would like to go on a date with you."
Everyone cheered and clapped as Niall beamed at me and gave me a warm hug. Still unsure about him and what I just agreed into doing, my arms remained at my sides, refusing to embrace him. Niall pulled away when he realized my lack of response, but the gleeful look on his face didn't falter as he took out his phone.
"Can I have your number?" He said, grinning like he won the lottery.
I nodded and typed my number into his phone. He gave me his thanks and again hugged me. This time, I pulled away and followed Rose out the door. Without another glance behind me, we walked out into the crisp September day.
Noticing that Rose was waiting for me by my car, I made my way over to her, quickening my pace. I felt waves of anger roll off her as I got closer. Her eyes narrowed as I shyly stood in front of her figure and wasted no time on giving me a piece of her mind.
"What were you thinking back there?! Why would you say yes to a total stranger!?" Rose yelled, not caring about anyone hearing her.
"I thought we both agreed that he might be a potential stalker or worse!" She added angrily.
"Will you please calm down!?" I exclaimed, throwing my arms up in exasperation. "One: you're not my mom. Two: how can I say no to him in front of all those people? And three: he begged right in front of me!"
"How can you say no to a guy who does that?" I continued. A hand ran through my dark hair, frustration coursing through my veins.
"Ugh! You know what, fine. It's too late to change anything now so whatever happens, happens. Don't say I didn't warn you." Rose sighed, knowing that there was no point in arguing. "I'm heading back to work. Tell me what your parents think about that date of yours after you tell them. I could already see their joyful faces now."
I rolled my eyes and got into my car, shaking her sarcastic comment off. Although, I knew she was right. I had no clue how my parents were going to accept the fact that I'm going out with a stranger, but it couldn't be good.
I just have to wait and see.
