Chapter 4

~Payback's a Bitch~

I lay in bed, not able to fall asleep.

I can sleep, I just don't want to. I don't want to go to sleep because then I'll have nightmares of the night my dad died.

I feel incredibly guilty. Because of me he's dead. I could have helped him, even if it meant dying myself. The guilt is eating me alive. I don't know how long I can take this, how long I can keep acting like everything is fine when it isn't.

I roll on my side and try not to cry. Deciding I'm tired of just laying down, I get up. I run my hand through my hair while sighing, and squeezing my eyes shut trying to ignore my raging headache.

I decide to turn the lights on, then grab my backpack before I sit on the edge of the bed. I unzip it, then pull out the metal box my dad gave me for my birthday. It has a lock on it, and he said that if anything ever happened to open it, and that if so I would know the password. I huff and stuff it back in my backpack.

I can't open it, I'm too...I'm too scared. Scared of what's in it, scared of what I could find out.

I look at the clock, and it shows 6:37am in bright green text. I decide to go downstairs to see if mike's awake; he usually is this early. I push the backpack off my lap, then get up and slip on some sweats and a long sleeve shirt. I walk out of the room and make my way down stairs, into the kitchen. No surprise, Mike's in here, sitting at the bar drinking coffee. He sees me and smiles tiredly.

"Morning," he chirps. He gets up and gets a mug, then pours some coffee. "here," he says stuffing it in my face.

"Thanks," I mumble. I sit next to him and sigh, wrapping my hands around the hot mug.

"You look terrible," he points out. I look at him and chuckle.

"Thanks, I try," I say pretending to flip imaginary hair, making him laugh. "I can start tutoring Jackson today," I say to him, making him smile.

"That'd be great, and my brother Josh is coming over so you can meet him. He's great." I smile then nod. I take a sip of my coffee, and shiver when the hot liquid goes down my throat. Jeremy walks into the kitchen half asleep, and Mike hands him a cup of coffee then kisses him on the cheek.

"Why do you guys get up so freaking early?" I grumble, making Jeremy scoff.

"First of all, you're up before me. Secondly, why do you sleep so late?"

"Touché my friend, touché."

"Why are you up so early?" Mike questions.

"Uh... another tinker bell dream," I reply, nodding my head sadly. Jeremy flicks my head and I hiss. "Ow, you jerk." I rub my head and glare at him.

"Don't lie," he scolds then looks at Mike, "he didn't sleep last night, I heard him up." Mike frowns, while I gasp and place a hand on my chest.

"You're stalking me?" He flicks me again. "Ow, stop that," I slap his hand away while glaring at him.

"I'm not stalking you," he grumbles.

"Whatever you say." He goes to flick me again but I move quickly, like super quick. I end up on the other side of the bar next to Mike. "Woah," I breathe. Jeremy looks at me amazed.

"You shouldn't be able to do that while those beads are on you," he says. I shrug, and turn to Mike.

"Who cares, that was awesome! Oh, Mike what time should Jackson and I start." As if on queue, Jackson walks in rubbing his eyes. "What is it with you guys waking up so early." Jeremy rolls his eyes, and turns to Jackson.
