Chapter 19

~Revelations~

It's the day after I shifted and I'm incredibly sore. But I still managed to go to work this morning... to Archer's dismay. It went by incredibly slow and the whole time I was stiff— which made me move slower and I got a couple of weird looks from the customers.

Now, I'm home... in bed with Archer— in his room. One of Archer's arms is under my neck, and my arm is thrown across his chest holding his other hand, while both of our legs are tangled together.

He and I fall asleep relatively quickly. Archer said he had a stressful day as well. He wasn't in the best of moods... not with me... just cranky in general. With him, it's hard to tell... He's very quiet most of the time, but today he was quieter than normal. He wouldn't say much but instead answer with a simple hand gesture or hum. Plus, there was a constant tic in his jaw.

At first, I thought he was upset with me because I went to work, but he assured me it had nothing to do with that, and that he was just tired and cranky.

The next morning, I surprisingly wake up before Archer. I go to stretch but I'm far too sore, making me hiss in pain... The pain is definitely worse today.

Glancing up at Archer through hooded eyes, I smile. I run my hand down his left arm with the intent to wake him up, but all of the sudden my vision fades into complete whiteness. My reality seems to be distorted, as I'm plucked out of Archer's room and enveloped in white clouds.

I look down at myself in confusion, as my body suddenly feels weightless. I can no longer feel or hear Archer's breathing. I'm simply floating in a white abyss. My head whips around frantically, as I try to comprehend what's happening.

My heart starts beating faster as I can feel my weight gradually return. The clouds slowly start to fade and I find myself in a school playground.

"What the hell..." I mutter to myself while turning in a circle to scan my surroundings.

Kids are running and playing with each other. There's a group playing soccer on the field, all of the swings are occupied with kids that are going dangerously high, and a lot of children are just walking around with one another.

I have to be dreaming. That's literally the only reasonable explanation... But this feels so real. I have control over what I'm doing, I'm self-aware, plus everything is extremely vivid.

Absentmindedly, I take a step forward and a kid runs into me— well, through me. He wasn's fazed one bit. No one can see me...

I go up to a girl and wave my hand in front of her face. She doesn't move, just continues talking to her friend. I can't hear clearly, save for muffled sounds.

Standing up completely, I take a step back and let out a deep breath. However, when I hear a kid clearly yell, "Archer." I whip around to look towards the direction the sound was coming from.

A young blond boy is sitting meekly against a brick wall. His knees are pulled tightly to his chest and his tiny arms are wrapped around his legs while his cheek rests against his knee. He peeks up through his lashes but doesn't lift his head up. Instead, he closes his eyes tightly and tucks his head into his knees.

It's Archer... When he was a kid. With that realization, I run over to him.

The group of kids seems to be led by an older boy with brown hair— At least he looks older. It might just seem like that because he's taller than the rest of the group. Behind him are two other boys and a girl. One of the boys has red hair and the other has black hair. The girl seems very young, with blonde hair pulled up into a tight ponytail. The tallest boy walks up to Archer, his feet merely centimeters away from Archer's feet. He cocks his head to the side then brings his leg back and kicks Archer in the shin to get his attention.
