"Are you all set, Mia?" My mom asked.
"Yes, mom. I'm ready." I exited my room and greeted my mom.
"Okay, let's go." We exited our home and found ourselves in front of two elevators. At this time, my family and I were living in a tiny apartment complex. There were only two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There was no staircase that led to an upstairs floor. If any of us wanted to exit the building with our apartment complex, they would have to go down via elevator, or exit into a garage.
My mom and I went into the garage and got inside her blue Mazda car.
"You nervous?" My mom queried as she revved up the car.
"A little bit." I answered. All my life, I had been in a public school which was five minutes away by car. Just three months prior, I graduated from that school. Sure, I had become attached to it, but I was ready to move on. Attending a school for nine straight years was more than enough for me.
Twenty minutes later, my mom drove by the front of my new school. The main building was composed of tan bricks, and the front of the roof and columns was white. I began to get butterflies in my stomach. I hope the kids there will like me. What if they saw me as a freak for liking Pokemon? Surely, there's gotta be someone...
"Have a great day, Mia!" My mom called as I unbuckled my seat belt and walked outside.
"Thanks, mom!" I thanked. A gray haired man wearing a classy dress shirt, khakis, and his signature navy blue sports jacket smiled when he saw me. I instantly felt relieved.
"Good morning, Mia! It's your first day here! Are you excited?" He asked. I was strongly reminded of my late father, who was always cheery to see me.
"Um, yeah. And a little nervous." I said as the man escorted me inside.
"Don't be. Your classmates are extremely nice. I'm Principal G, by the way." Principal G reassured with a toothy grin. I already knew these bits of info, as a matter of fact. I had visited the school a few times in order to see what it was like. I had also met my seventh grade classmates the day before. There was an open house event, and I spent the day with my classmates at Mikayla's house.
I entered my seventh grade classroom, which also served as the science lab. I couldn't believe my eyes. There were only four other girls in the class. They were all wearing the school uniform, which consisted of either a green or white collared shirt and khaki bottoms.
"Hey, Mia!" Mikayla greeted. She had shoulder-length dirty blonde hair and braces on her teeth.
"Hi." I said as I noticed each of our school supplies on the table in front of us. On top of each pile of school supplies was an iPad. "We get iPads?"
"Yeah." Mikayla answered. I never legitimately owned an iPad, unless you count receiving one from Santa one Christmas. I smiled at the thought of having my very own iPad. I could surf the web on that thing without having to surrender it to someone else.
Just then, the seventh grade homeroom teacher, Ms. Grace, talked to all the seventh grade girls about the iPads and showed us how to set them up. As soon as they were set up, we had to go down to the gym for Opening. Every Monday morning at my school (with some exceptions), the whole school gathers together inside the gym (or MPR, as everyone dubs it) for Opening. What do we even do during Opening, you might ask. Well, as someone who recently graduated from that school, I can tell you that it varies depending on the occasion.
As soon as everyone was settled, two eighth graders called for silence. It is tradition for eighth graders to lead Openings.
'This is interesting.' I thought to myself. The two eighth then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, told us to sit down, and called Principal G to the stage. Principal G then proceeded to preach about how much he loved the first day of school and read us some poems.
"And now, I would like to introduce our newest students to the school community." Principal G announced. He then proceeded to introduce the newest students, from Montessori (that's basically preschool and kindergarten) to sixth grade.
"And let's give a warm welcome to our newest seventh grade students, Mia Mircada and Kirsten Walters!" Principal G preached. A girl with frizzy brown hair and I joined Principal G on stage. The whole moment was a blur. If there's one thing I could remember, it's that I felt very welcomed into the community.

Author's Note: So I went from writing about Anakin Skywalker to writing about myself. Honestly, I'm not the best at these sort of stories, but I'll try my best!
