Chapter Sixteen:

It is two days later. Maggie and I are sitting next to Mark. I am holding one of his hands while Maggie is holding his other. He hasn't been awake since his surgeries. Easton has been bringing Maggie and I dinner. I couldn't ask for a better girl during this whole thing. She has let me know that the person who is my sub is doing a good job but can't even come close to as good of a teacher as I am. Since Mark is in the hospital my boss has given me all the time I need off.

Mark starts to move and I look up to his face. He is opening his eyes. He closes them really fast. A little bit later he tries to open them slowly. This time he is able to open them fully. He motions for a drink.

I tell Maggie to go let the nurse know that he is awake as she walks out I get him a cup of water which he drinks. In a weak voice he ask for another cup. I do as he ask. Both times that he has drank the water I help him.

Maggie and a nurse comes in. The nurse says, " It is good to see you finally awake. Do you want anything to drink?"

" My step mom has already gotten me some."

" Ok well are you in any pain?"

" Not right now. Ask in about two minutes." He tries to joke.

The nurse laughs. She says, " Ok so the good news is you can still walk and the bullet didn't hit any major organs. The bad news is that you have to stay here for a while longer."

" I really don't mind as long as you are my nurse." He says flirting.

The nurse blushes. After she recovers she finally says, " Well I have been your nurse so far. The only time I'm not is when it is nightshift."

" Ok well that is fine. At least I get to see your pretty face during the day when it really matters."

She smiles, " Well I'll come back in a little bit to check on you."

Mark nods. When the nurse walks out Maggie says, " You were really laying it on there thick bro."

" Well what can I say when I see a sexy woman I let her know what I think. That is how you do it ask mom."

" I don't need to since I don't date wemon."

" You have a point there. Not to mention any guy I have ever seen you around all try to chase you."

" Yeah I know. I just normally want to hangout with you though. I don't want to think about boys right now while I try to focuse on school."

" Yeah I know little sis."

He seems to be hisself which is really good. I love watching my kids talk to each other about certain stuff. I decide to text the family and Easton to let them know that Mark is awake. I know not many people can come in the room at once but at least one or two more should be aloud back since he is awake now.
