Four Years Ago:

"I don't care what you say! Felix is a great guy. The only reason you don't like him is because he doesn't buy into all the religious garbage you've been trying to shove down my throat since I was a little kid." Kat glared at her parents.

Her father sighed and shook his head. "Katarina, we have tried our best to train you in the way that you should go. We've done our best to raise you for the Lord. Where did we go so wrong?" he asked, his tone defeated.

"You did everything wrong. You've always had all these stupid rules. It doesn't matter whether you explained them or not. Everyone else around me gets to do whatever they want, and you guys just keep me from having fun. Anytime I question you, you hold the Bible up and act like that validates you. Well, news flash, it doesn't!"

"Kat... Felix blatantly rejects Christ and the Bible... You two don't have anything in common when it comes to your philosophies. It's only going to end in heartache. The Bible tells us not to be unequally yolked with an unbeliever."

"Yeah? Well, what does it have to say about two unbelievers being together? Hmm? Because I don't believe in that hypocritical foolishness. I never did. I'm eighteen. I don't need your permission to marry him, and I definitely don't need you to tell me what to think or how to act anymore. He's flying to Oklahoma for work tomorrow. I'll be going with him as asked." Kat turned her back on her parents, ignoring her mother's stifled sobs, and walked out of the house, her back rigid.

How dare they tell me what to do? She asked herself. They constantly hit me over the head with religion whenever I don't do what they want. They rarely explain why they want me to obey their ridiculous rules, and they treat me like a five year old. Do what I say because I said so... Well, I'm done. I'm never going to come back to them, and I'm never going to believe in their religion either. This is my life, and I'm going to live it how I see fit.
