We spent another 3 days with my family before it became too suffocating for me to function. I needed time on my own, back in my own apartment, where I could focus on school again.
I love my family and I know I should have stayed longer and been with them, but life doesn't stop when someone dies.
Even if it was my little brother.
Thinking over this whole past week, just saying his name makes me blank out almost, where my mind just kind of stops working properly and I stare at nothing.
Harry and I had just about one more hour of driving before we were back.
According to the gps on my phone, we would arrive around 4 pm considering all the traffic.
It was Thursday now, and classes had resumed their normal schedule awhile ago.
I knew I would have to meet with all of my professors soon, but most of them had emailed me, concerned with my extended absence.
I still forget sometimes how there aren't many student at this school and you really do get to know all the professors very well as individuals.
I offered to drive back, considering Harry drove us to Green Bay, but he put up a fight. Sorta. We settled on switching half way, meaning my turn to drive was over now.
Even though I was able to sleep in today and we didn't even leave until noon, I still felt exhausted.
Actually, 99% of the time now I felt tired. Like I was constantly just dragging myself along.
"Hey Abby?"
"Yeah?" I can't help the yawn that escapes my lips as I answer Harry.
"Didn't you say you had a dog?" Oh shit, I did.
I have a quick flashback to the night we sat in my apartment after the movers came, just asking the most random questions about each other.
"Oh my god, I do have a dog." I sit up, wide awake now, "Where the heck was he?" I ask incredulously, looking wide eyed at Harry, causing him to laugh.
"This isn't funny Harry, I don't know where my dog is." I quickly find my phone, instantly calling my Mom.
"Hello?"
"Hey Mom, where was Ollie?" I can't help the worried tone of my voice, making Harry chuckle at me again. I roll my eyes, hitting his shoulder lightly as I await my Mom's response.
"Oliver is staying with Grandma Jo for awhile." I let out a sigh, relaxing in my seat.
"Why is he staying with Grandma?" The little nerd hates Grandma Jo.
"She just missed him, I guess." I can tell she isn't telling me something, but don't question it.
We talk for a little bit longer before I end the call, turning back to Harry.
"You definitely have to come back with me so you could meet Ollie sometime." I tell Harry. Ollie was the smallest little havanese pup I'd ever seen. He was only 8 pounds, and we had had him for six years already.
Seeing Harry with a dog that small would be either hilarious or insanely cute. Or both.
"What kind of dog is he?"
We talk about Ollie for a bit, and then about his cats back in England. Apparently he had 3 cats, all living with his Mom right now. Dusty, Marcy, and Molly, all little baby girls.
