she would dance for her suitors
her father would smile fondly at her
and then achilles happened
she fell in love with the boy who wore a dress
who called himself pyrra at his mother's request
she loved a boy who loved another
and it cost her everything
(intermission came with a son who dies in battle)
Act 2
there is a girl who is the daughter of a rich man
she goes to ballet after school
her father smiles at her over his newspaper
but then she reads a story with her namesake in it
deidameia is a petty, jealous girl
she stomps her foot and throws tantrums
she loved a man whose son she bore
and she engaged intimacy without consent
Act 3
deidameia is a villain to girls who read the story
there is nothing redemptive about her character:
vain, foolish, beautiful, a l o n e
the enemy for falling in love
the daughter of a rich man burns the book
she watches the corinthian helmet turn black
deidameia was not to be remembered like that
as whiny, as forceful, as nothing more than a plot point
