Back in Millie’s room the girls talk about what happened at the party. Millie learns that Jessica found Mike and that they had a very fun night and made plans to meet at lunch time. After telling Millie about Mike and the lunch plan it’s time for Millie to tell what happened with her and Peter. But with no mention of the voices.
Jessica is in 7th heaven of happiness because Millie finally got Peter’s attention.
“See honey, it wasn’t that hard after all. All you had to do was to be at the right place at the right time.” Both girls laugh and Millie agrees with Jessica.
The girls are in the middle of removing their makeup and brushing their teeth when Millie’s phone vibrates. She’s received a text. She drops her toothbrush when she sees who it’s from.
“Jess, Peter just asked me if I want to have lunch with him today.”
Jessica squeals and jumps up and down while saying
“This is so cool, Millie. Now the two of you can get to know each other and he’ll fall for you. I just know it.”
“But I-”
Millie tries to speak but Jessica stops her.
“Not buts. I know what you are gonna say and there’s no need to. You are a sweet girl and an amazing friend. And you deserve to be loved. Don’t even think about anything else than that.”
Millie smiles. Once again Jessica says just the right thing. Millie keeps herself busy with replying and picking up her toothbrush. She knows that if she doesn’t concentrate on something right now then the voices will be back. Jessica might always say the right thing but unfortunately even she can’t keep the voices away for more than a short time and that time limit is about to be reached.
“Millie. You have to get up.”
It’s her mom.
“I’m up mom. I’m getting ready. Jessica came over early so she’s helping me.”
Millie yells back and stifles a yawn.
“Good. I will be going back to bed. I'm jetlagged. Have a nice day girls.”
The girls laugh. Now they no longer have to worry about being busted in partying.
“God, I wish I had my own car. I only had like one drink at the party and that was just after we arrived.”
Jessica says. She’s saving all the money she can so she can buy a car but so far she only has 100 bucks and she needs 1000 to get the car she wants. She tried asking her parents but they couldn’t afford buying it for her. But they did give her 50 bucks to help.
“Don’t worry, sweetie. You’ll get your car soon enough.”
Millie tries to encourage her and she knows her attempt fails because Jessica snorts.
“Soon enough has passed by already. I wanted it last month when I started saving the money.”
Millie nods. She would love it too if Jessica got a car. Then they could drive instead of always having to ride the bus and they wouldn’t have to depend on the bus schedule.
“It will be alright. I’m actually looking for a job to help you raise the money you need so that you can get the car sooner. It was supposed to be a surprise until I got a job but now I just thought you should know.”
Jessica smiles brightly and hugs Millie hard.
“I love it when you drink. You tell me all of your surprises and I always love them so much. Thank you so much.”
Millie hugs her back and smiles. Then they leave the bathroom and change their clothes. Jessica has extra clothes at Millie’s place because they hang out almost all the time. After changing their clothes they eat breakfast and then it’s off to school.
Arriving at school Millie and Jessica can feel the school is buzzing. Something big must have happened at the party.
“Hey Millie. Cool seeing you last night. You should come party with us more often.”
A girl that Millie barely knows but recognizes from her Math class says. Millie turns to Jessica and sees that she looks just as confused as she feels. She doesn’t remember doing anything else than talking to Peter and drinking a few beers.
“Oh shoot. It must be because of the dancing.”
Millie remembers but she also remembers that the girl was happy and smiling and not making fun of her. Or was what she just said some kind of joke?
“Do you think she was joking, Jess? Do you think the making fun of me is gonna start now?”
Jessica laughs and shakes her head.
“No, sunshine. I think you impressed them with your dance and I can’t believe I’m saying this again but you are an amazing dancer.”
Millie blushes and mumbles a thank you.
As the girls walk to their first class more people stop Millie and tell her she was wonderful and that they would love to hang out with her sometime. Millie has no idea how to respond to this. She’s not at all used to people noticing her and she felt fine about them not noticing her. Except when it comes to Peter. She loves that he notices her.
At lunch the girls sit with Peter and Mike and they all have so much fun that Millie ends up with a stomach ache from way too much laughing. It turns out there’s a video going around school with a dancing queen. That queen is Millie and when she sees the video she must admit that she’s not that bad at dancing. The others try to tell her that bad and her dance can’t be put in the same sentence unless she means badass but Millies refuses to believe them.
After school the girls are going shopping and somehow it ends up with Mike and Peter coming with them.
When they arrive at the mall Millie is enjoying herself so much that she’s afraid she can’t take it. The feeling is so big and bright and she’s so not used to that.
Millie decides to go to the toilet to freshen up and Jessica follows her. One of Millie’s arms hurts so she walks into a toilet booth and closes the door before pulling up her sleeve. Blood is running from her wounds again. It happened at the party too but luckily she wore a dark cardigan. She dries the blood off but it keeps coming. It hurts so badly and she’s hit by a wave of sickness. She throws up in the toilet and falls to the floor. Then everything goes black.
A/N: Hey guys. Thanks for reading! Please leave a comment. What's your favourite part yet? Mine is when Millie's dancing because it's clear she doesn't see herself in the same light as the people around her.
