My back was beginning to hurt from lying in my bed for too long. I tossed and turned unable to go to sleep anymore. You might be thinking why is she trying to sleep? Isn't she supposed to research for her mission but the thing is i am grounded. After my little adventure in the forest with the "big bad wolf" my family was horrified. it also got me grounded. So, here I am lying in the bed because I feel like anxiety is slowly getting hold of me. The thought of not being able to help my grandmother and lying in bed all day was making me very fidgety. The only time I moved out my room was to eat, take a dump or piss. My butt was actually sore from all the sitting.
"Hey, mom can I go over to Richie's place." I said honestly.
"NO!"
"But Mom, I haven't stepped a foot outside this house. I need some fresh air. Please!"
"You should have given it a thought before going into the woods at night. You very well knew the dangers. You are not going anywhere."
"So, I am supposed to rot in here?"
"Young lady, you watch your tone."
"I'll take her." Elizabeth slowly walked inside the kitchen. "She can come with me. I am going to visit Richie's mother. I will keep an eye on her.'
"Thank you." I mouthed the words to Nana. She gave me a knowing smile. She was honestly the most amazing person. I know a lot a people would probably criticize me for diverting from the mission. I was supposed to be formulating plan to save Nana not visit some guy called Richie. Well, Richie is not some guy. He is a very dear friend who also happened to have a lot of knowledge about the history of our town. I had a feeling that he knew about the sword. So, technically I was still on my mission.
"You have to be home by four."
"Yes, Mam."
I realized it had been a really long time since Nana and I walked together. It was actually sad that such terrible news had to arrive for me to spend more time with the person I love. The summer air was cool. The tendrils of my hair were slowly drifting in the wind. The sun rays were just warm enough to balance out the chills of the cold air.
"Beautiful day isn't it?" My Nana said enunciating a conversation.
"Yes."
"You could have been dead to see this day. Elaine what were you thinking?"
I heard disappointment linger in each word my grandmother spoke. I would feel better if she were yelling and calling me stupid. I wasn't sad when I witnessed the horror in my mother's eyes as she saw me standing in the doorsteps covered in Blood or even when she was yelling at my wolf encounter. I wasn't sad when she said I was grounded or that I was foolish but this was worse. I hated to disappoint my family. I let out a deep sigh.
"I am sorry. I lost track of time."
"This is no excuse to almost getting yourself killed. You know my days are coming to an end. I also know your mother will be devastated and she will need you. Your reckless actions are only making things difficult for her."
"You think I will not be devastated? It won't be difficult for me?" I replied shocked.
"No but you are stronger than your mother. You need to be there for her. I wish I could do something but there is nothing I can do other than to pray."
"Yes, there is!"
"We have already discussed this. You promised me you wouldn't do anything."
A promise I did not at all intend to keep. Did my grandmother really think I would just keep quiet as she is getting eaten? Was she really that helpless? I felt scared too but I knew one thing for sure. My grandmother was going to live a long life and that evil son of a bitch was going to die.
"I know. I won't do anything." I lied.
