"Richie, we need to focus!" I slapped his head trying to catch his attention. Staring hours at the white piece of paper with our carefully demonstrated plan was making my eyes watery. I was quiet satisfied with my plan but Richie's constant nagging, and gagging showed his disapproval.

"I would focus if it didn't look this stupid." he said exasperated.

"You know what is stupid? You are lazing around when your life is at stake." I was practically yelling.

"So to summarize, our plan is to go to the mayor's house which is massive and steal the sword at night which we are not even sure exists and even if it does, don't know where it is."

Now that Richie said the plan it did sound a little stupid and reckless but reckless was my middle name. I wasn't going to admit it though because of my undeniable stubbornness, also we didn't have any better plan.

"Yes, that's the plan." I said pretending to be self-assured.

"We have like five days in our hands. If we get caught we will be locked up but that is not even the worst. There is no way we can trespass at daylight and I am pretty sure we will end up becoming dinner at night."

He was right. I mean Richie was almost always right. He was right when he told me jumping from the "No diving area" of the cliff was a bad idea. I almost had a brain hemorrhage. It was a bad idea when he told me I shouldn't hang out with the hot boy "Aiden". I later found out he was involved in some hardcore satanic cult. Richie was right when he told me eating 4 giant pizzas and a giant tub of ice cream in one sitting was a bad idea. I had serious diarrhea the next day. Richie was always right and every time I did some shit he warned about I got into trouble. I didn't want to admit it though but he did make some really valid point.

"Okay, let's for arguments sake say that my plan sucks. You have anything better?" I call him out with a very challenging look.

I saw his expression shift. "In fact I do!" he said simply. "We are going to march up to the mayor's house and ask him the sword.'

I waited for him to end his sentence with "just kidding" but he didn't. He looked at me with a proud expression. My Goodness, he was serious! I could feel laughter threatening to explode. I was biting my tongue. Perhaps the news that he was the other contender was making him mentally decapitated.

"So according to you, we march up to the mayor's house and ask him for the sword?"

Richie nods his head in approval.

"And you think he is simply going to hand us his most prized possession. He is simply going to hand the sword to us. We are not even adults yet. We will be laughing stocks.'

"I know he is simply not going to hand us the sword. So, we have to dig up some dirt on him."

"You want to blackmail him?" I asked him shocked.

"Well, now that you put it that way. Yes! we can even call it Plan B. you know B for Blackmail."

Though I couldn't see my own face I could tell you that shock was evident in all of my facial features. My eyes were threatening to fall from their sockets because they were bulging out in shock. Richie was the last person on the planet who would play dirty. He was just the kind of person who held his morals and principles but when your life was on stake it didn't really matter I guess. What Richie mentioned actually sounded like a nice plan. However, as far as I knew the mayor was as clean as a slate.

"Okay your plan has prospect but how do we do it? Where do we start?"

"The Library." Richie said.
