Last Dinner

Richie and I sat on my bedroom floor; examining the mighty, silver sword. The sword felt heavy in my hands. "I can't even carry this thing with one hand. It's heavy." Richie looked at the sword with hopeful expression. This was the only thing going to save his life and he was trying to be as positive as he could. I admired this about Richie. Even in this dreadful situation he was as calm as one could possibly be. If I were instead of him then I would kill myself rather than be someone's food but then someone from my family would replace me. I would probably not do that.

"Understood?" Richie asked me for the hundredth time. I looked at the white piece of paper sitting on my wooden floor with red circles, arrows and crosses over it. "Yes" I nodded my head. Honestly there was not much plan to begin with. I would wait in the forest and before Nana could get any further, Richie and I will kidnap her, bring her back in my basement and tie her up. With Nana out of the picture now it was just Richie, Me and the butcher's son. Our strategy was to stay hidden and use the butcher's son as bait. I know that's horrible but I am glad it's Evion. He was a bully and he definitely deserved a scare. I wouldn't let him die but he getting scarred for life is good enough for me. I silently touched my hair remembering how Evion grabbed me by the hair and dragged me. He ripped out chunks of my hair from the scalp. My scalp was actually bleeding. I had to wear a ponytail for the rest of the year because I had a bald spot. If anyone looked closely, they can see that the area he ripped my hair out of was thinner than the rest of my hair. Oh, he definitely deserved a few bites too. After the devil will be engaged with Evion I will sneakily stab him with the sword. It was actually pretty simple.

Richie spent rest of the day reading every information about the devil so we could have an upper hand. While I was engaged learning some defense moves. Anything was helpful at this time. This had been our ritual for the last few days. Go through the utterly simple plan hundred times. Read the book. Practice the moves.

Mother, Nana, Richie and I sat across our dinner table. Slowly chewing our food. The atmosphere was heavy. I saw my mother had barely a food in her plate, on the other hand Nana's plate looked like an entire buffet table in itself. I watched my grandmother gulp down the entire mashed potatoes in her plate. I could definitely see where I got my "love for food" genes from but the amount of food on her plate or should I say plates was seriously over-whelming me and that's saying a lot considering I eat a lot myself. Nana finally noticed me staring at her food.

"What? It's my last dinner. Let me enjoy it." Nana said followed by a large sob from my mother. Tears were streaming down her face so much I am surprised we didn't get a flood. "Mom, don't cry!"

That was the only thing I could think of. What does one say in such a situation anyway? "Mrs. Baker, this is an inevitable incident and there is nothing we can do about it but what we can do is enjoying our last dinner and creating happy memories. You have to be strong for Elaine." he said in his calm, soothing voice. My mother slowly wiped her tears away and gave a small smile. "You are right."

The rest of the dinner was okay. Richie and Nana looked like everything was right in the world. How can anyone be so calm and carefree in such a situation? My mother on the other hand had already begun to mourn but she was trying to keep a straight face and failing miserably. I however, was freaking out. I could feel my heart hammering in my chest. My stomach was burning like someone had dumped acid in it. I was keeping a straight face though. I was a very talented actress and my face was straight but inside I was screaming in agony. All I could think of was "why me?"

I was in the forest. Running away from something. The moonlight was illuminating the forest floors. I had to do something but I didn't know what? I ran as fast as my legs could take me and I heard it. I heard him scream, "Richie's murderous scream echoed." No,no,no,no my body had began to panic. There they were. Nana's limp body lied in the forest floor. She was dead. Her expression was stoic and her unblinking glare burned a hole in my chest. Richie was struggling to escape from the devils grasp and then it happened; with one swift motion the devil ripped apart Richie's head and limbs. I let out a shrilling, ear curling cry.

"Hey, hey, hey" I suddenly woke up drenched in sweat. My heart was pounding. I saw Richie looking at me with a worried expression. I woke up abruptly trying to compose myself. "It was just a dream, it was just a dream" I reminded myself. "

"I had a nightmare." I told him. "I am okay now."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

Richie gave a nod and proceeded towards his room but I cut him. "Hey Richie, could you please lie down with me?"

He looked puzzled but then agreed. We both snuggled inside the blanket. I put my head in his chest and clutched him tight, afraid that if I let him go he would disappear. His heart beats were giving me comfort. "Want to talk about it?"

"No" I simply replied. His body was warming up and his heart was beating fast but it was beating at least. Richie had a peculiar musk. Every time it hit my nose, I knew my happy hormones were released. I finally felt calm and before I could worry anymore I dozed off too sleep with his melodic heat beating in my ears and his wonderful musk revitalizing my soul.

The trial is in less than 24 hours. So, exciting! do you think Elaine will save her grandmother and kill the devil or does fate have something else in store for her? I hope you guys liked the chapter. I will update another one very soon and forgive me for errors. I love you guys, stay smiling.......... xoxoxoxxo
