I grip the thin, warm handle of my coffee as I sip it quietly, letting the watery yet strong liquid scorch down my throat. My burning lungs ache for more of the caffeine to waken me up, and with tired movements, I lift yet another drink to my lips.
Currently, I'm sitting at a small, cute coffee house with my kidnapper. We are both obviously exhausted as we stare at each other with tired eyes, sipping our coffees silently. Yesterday had been a great day. Really, it was. So great, in fact, we stayed out past midnight exploring the Las Vegas nightlife, and apparently Trevor forgot that he had a meeting at seven in the morning today.
Trevor flips his cell open as it vibrates on the table between us. It may only be six thirty in the morning, but Trevor has already been receiving endless amounts of calls. I now understand why Trevor can be such a grouch sometimes. Apparently, Trevor is second in command in his unit, so he is extremely popular and has to deal with phone calls nearly every minute of the day if he's working.
"Hello?" Trevor answers groggily.
I sort of pay attention to his phone call, but fatigue is to blame for when I zone out. But Trevor hangs up soon enough, and I look at him expectantly.
"That was your best friend," Trevor informs me, his voice low and tired as he takes a long gulp of his plain black coffee.
"Holden?" I guess.
"Landon, actually," Trevor corrects, and I roll my eyes. Landon is definitely not my best friend.
"I just love that douchebag," I mutter, and Trevor chuckles.
"I can tell."
"Why is he calling you?" I ask.
"He's wondering where the meeting is for this morning," explains Trevor. "I told him to tell the other guys. We should probably head over there."
"But I'm tired," I complain, slumping down and resting my head against the cool table. It might be nasty, but I'm too exhausted to move.
"Trust me, if things were up to me, we'd be back at the hotel right now," Trevor assures me.
"Doing what, exactly?" I tease him, lifting my head slightly to watch his perfect features lift into his trademark smirk.
"I think you can figure out some ideas of what I'd have in mind," he replies in a low, seductive tone.
"Just how important is this meeting?" I ask. "Can you just blow it off?"
"I adore your eagerness," Trevor chuckles. "But since I sort of called this meeting, I'd have to say no, we can't blow it off."
"Why the hell did you set up the meeting at seven in the morning?" I demand, glaring at him.
"Because the rest of my unit has a meeting a nine, and we can't miss it. Right now, this meeting is unofficial because it's about you. It's just going to be Unit One, and you know everyone in it, so it shouldn't be a big deal."
"Good," I nod. "So everyone who was at the lake house in Tahoe will be there?"
"Yeah," Trevor confirms, before letting out a slow breath. "But Oliver will be, too."
Something inside of me ignites at the thought of being in the same room as Oliver. I'm pretty sure that feeling is rage. I could have figured that Oliver would be there today since I know he's part of Trevor's unit of Unit One, but still. I'm not prepared to see that man.
