"So the top layer, as is tradition, can be frozen and kept for your first child's christening. We don't usually recommend keeping it longer than about 15 years." The cake maker explained as she showed Taylor, Andrea, Diana, and Karlie Tom and Taylor's finished wedding cake.
It was a week until their wedding and they were just checking the little details were ready before going for a final dress fitting.
Karlie started coughing, obviously trying to cover a laugh, as Taylor glared at her, trying not to raise the mothers' suspicions.
"Are you okay there sweetheart?" Andrea asked her, tapping her gently on the back and offering her some water.
"Oh yes, I'm fine thank you." Karlie said, smiling gratefully at Andrea as Taylor rolled her eyes at Karlie.
"And you can bring the top tier in for us to re-ice when the time comes, with something more christening appropriate like footprints or building blocks." The cake decorator explained.
"Perfect." Taylor said, smiling tightly.
"What sort of time do you think you will be arriving with the cake at the venue?" Diana asked, pulling out her diary as Andrea did the same.
The wedding was taking place at Kirtlington Park, near Oxford, in a week. It was not a large wedding, with just 100 guests in total. Tom and Taylor preferred it that way, intimate enough to feel special and not like a huge spectacle. The mothers, along with Taylor and Karlie as her maid of honour, were in London at the moment.
Soon they were all off to the final dress fitting, with Diana and Andrea walking ahead chattering away as Taylor and Karlie wandered behind them.
"Could you have been more obvious Karls?" Taylor said.
"Hey! I covered it well! It was just when she said 15 years and my mind just kept thinking it will be a year maximum." Karlie said.
"Yeah...but we haven't quite gotten around to telling them about this little change." Taylor replied, trying not to speak too loudly as she was aware they were in public. "The only reason you know id because you happened to stay overnight last week...."
"And aren't you glad that you had someone to being you flat coke and crackers that morning since your lovely fiancé was on set?" Karlie replied, poking Taylor in the side gently.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Taylor said, finally cracking a smile, "And a year might be right."
Taylor and Tom had found out two weeks earlier that they were expecting their first child together in about 8 months, but had not told anyone yet apart from Karlie, who was doing her best to keep it a secret. They were happy that Taylor would only be about 7 weeks along at the wedding as she wouldn't be showing yet, and also that so far the morning sickness hadn't been too bad, so had not caused any suspicions from friends or family.
"So we will see you next week for dinner the night before." Diana said as they all parted ways after the dress fitting where a lot of tears were shed by all.
They had decided to book out the Manor at Weston on the Green, with enough rooms for their family and close friends to stay, which had a large dining room where they were hosting a dinner the night before the wedding.
"Yes! I can't believe it's only a week away!" Taylor gushed as she gave Diana a hug.
"It's very exciting my dear! Finally, my boy is getting married! And then next thing you know he will have children of his own!" Diana said, tears coming to her eyes which she wiped away quickly and smiled.
"They do grow up so quickly!" Andrea agreed, giving Diana a hug as well before they parted ways.

"Karlie did what?" Tom said, laughing as Taylor recounted the story from the cake decorators.
"Yeah...she would've blown it but luckily covered it up quite well." Taylor said, barely looking at Tom but sensing his smile as his arms wrapped around her from behind and she leaned back against his chest.
"Well she was right.... A year to the day and we are celebrating this little one's christening." Tom said quietly looking down at the 4 month old in Taylor's arms. A perfect mix of the two of them, a little blonde haired baby with blue eyes and the beginnings of curls.
"Well, little Angus Scott Hiddleston, we will see whether your grandma's freezer kept that cake edible enough over the past year.... And what the decorator did for the icing." Taylor said, gently running her finger over his pudgy cheek as he slept in her arms as they lounged on the sofa at their Rhode Island house, with two days before they celebrated Gus's christening here at the house.
"Your first taste of fruit cake! It's a milestone!" Tom said, laughing slightly and making Taylor smirk, recalling their lengthy discussion about whether their cake should be fruit cake or not, in the end agreeing to have a fruit cake but chocolate cake as an alternative for guests who preferred it, including Taylor.
