"One more episode won't hurt... and then I'll go to bed." Taylor thought to herself. She was binge watching Grey's Anatomy and had been telling herself she would go to bed soon, but still hadn't. She was too excited to sleep as Tom was arriving back in LA the next morning and a couple of her friends were coming over for a Labour Day weekend barbeque lunch at her house later on.
That was 5 hours ago. It was now 8am and Taylor was wide awake. She didn't realise the time until a key on her front door and the cats skittering off to greet whoever was there. Taylor took a look at the clock and realised it must be Tom. Immediately she was up and running to the front door, where he only just had time to place his bag on the ground before she had her arms wrapped around his neck.
"Well that's a wonderful way to be greeted!" He said, chuckling as Taylor swatted his arm and leaned back slightly to give him a proper hello kiss.
"You're back!!" She squealed, letting him go and clapping her hands together.
"Indeed I am!" Tom replied, trying to mirror her enthusiasm.
"Come and sit down! Do you want some coffee? Some breakfast? Anything?" She asked, ushering him into the kitchen.
"A coffee would be fantastic, love." Tom said, gratefully having been on planes for basically a day on his way back from Australia. "And then I might take a quick shower before the guests arrive."
"Okay! How about you head up to take a shower and I'll bring the coffee up?" She offered.
"That's perfect. Thank you darling. I'll see you in a few!" He said, placing a hand on her waist and leaning over slightly to give her a quick kiss.
Taylor started on her task of making Tom a cup of coffee and some toast for both of them, while he took his luggage upstairs and got into the shower.
Before long, Tom was out of the shower and getting dressed as Taylor changed and updated him on everything that had been going on and he regaled her with stories from set, even though they usually spoke at least once every couple of days and were in constant messaging communication.
Taylor suddenly started yawning and trying to cover it up, but Tom was quite perceptive and caught it.
"Are you tired love? Did you not sleep well last night?" He asked, showing genuine concern, knowing how much she pushed herself sometimes.
"I...um... didn't really sleep at all last night. I just couldn't fall asleep....and then started watching TV and sort of didn't stop... so yeah..." She said, looking down at her hands as she twisted her fingers together and apart.
"Oh darling!" Tom said, sitting next to her and wrapping an arm around her shoulders, pulling her in close to him. "How about you have a little rest now?"
"Maybe.... But everyone will be arriving in a couple of hours and I need to get things ready!" Taylor said, sitting upright again.
"I can do it." He replied, "Come here."
Tom lay on the bed and beckoned her over, knowing that she liked to sleep in his arms, her head on his chest to hear his heart beating. Taylor crawled up the bed and lay down, a smile making it onto her face as she curled up next to him. Tom started to gently run his fingers through her hair until she fell asleep.
About half an hour later Tom shimmied off the bed, having checked Taylor as actually asleep, in order to start sorting things out downstairs. First he found the different bits of food, most of which Taylor had actually prepared already, and then went out to set up the barbecue as it was now 11.30 and people were arriving from 12. Next he made a sign for the front door to tell everyone to come around the side gate and right inside as he didn't want people ringing the doorbell if they got there while Taylor was still asleep. He was just finishing chopping vegetables to go on the barbecue when he felt two arms snake around his waist.
"Hello sleepyhead.... Are you feeling better?" He asked her, turning around to face her.
"I woke up and you were gone so I came to find you." She said simply, rubbing her eyes slightly under her glasses.
"How about you sit on one of the barstools and watch me get things ready." He suggested, kissing her forehead and leading her over. He lifted her up onto the stool and she immediately wrapped her arms and legs around him like a koala, trapping him and making him chuckle. "Well that won't work, darling, you have to let me go."
"Not letting go." Taylor said into his shirt, yawning again as she did.
"Well then." Tom said, lifting her up again and wrapping one arm under her slightly to carry her as he started carrying things out to the table and setting it for lunch. Taylor smiled and relaxed her whole body against his.
Very quickly Taylor's breathing had slowed and she was fast asleep in his arms. Luckily she wasn't too heavy, but Tom still tried to lie her down on the sofa, but her grip only tightened, giving him no choice but to keep carrying her around. Finally, and just in time, Tom finished everything he could for now and sat down on one of the wooden benches outside the back of the house, keeping Taylor in his arms.
"Helllo?" Tom heard a voice call out outside. It was Jaime, carrying a sleeping Leo as James walked next to her with Kyle.
"Hi." Tom said, over Taylor's head, smirking slightly as Jaime held back a giggle, "Someone didn't sleep well last night...and apparently this is the only way to keep her asleep." He said shrugging.
"Like godmother, like godson.... This little one was more tired this morning than last night!" Jaime said, sitting across from him.
"What's going on party people?!" Cara said, bouncing around the corner followed by Selena. "What's up with Tay?" She said rather loudly.
"She's asleep dummy.... Remember? She always sleeps so much better with the superhero man next to her." Selena said, smirking at Tom as he rolled his eyes at Cara's bubbly persona.
"I'm awake, I'm awake." Taylor murmured, sitting up slightly and rubbing her eyes before squinting at everyone.
"Here you go darling." Tom said, handing her glasses to her and smiling as she realised everyone was there.
"Hi guys!" Taylor said, slightly embarrassed that everyone had seen her asleep in Tom's arms, but also not really caring. "Oh shoot! I didn't get everything ready!" She said, jumping up and almost falling backwards as she did.
"Well someone did...." Selena said, pointing to the tablet hat was all set out and the barbecue that was ready for the food to go onto.
"You did all this?" Taylor asked Tom, turning towards him with shock and awe evident on her face.
"Well... yeah..." He said smiling as she wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned in towards him.
"Thank you!" She said quietly before giving him a very grateful kiss.
"Hey! Kids around guys...geez!" Cara teased, making everyone laugh.
"Well, let's get this barbecue on the road!" Taylor said, going inside to get the food for the barbecue and put her contacts in as Tom got everyone drinks.
