"Catch!"

I turned around to the source of the voice and almost peed my pants when I saw a flying ball heading straight towards my way. Before I had the chance to duck, Lily stepped in and caught the basketball, trapping it with the palm of her hands. I let out a breath of relief, as Lily tossed the ball back to Jim, who was cackling like a maniac.

I stormed over to where he was and flicked his forehead. A satisfied grin stretched across my face when I heard him yelp.

"What was that for?" Jim whined, rubbing his forehead.

I crossed my arms across my chest and sent a pointed look towards his way. "You know I have basketballafallaphobia."

"What ?"

Lily let out an exaggerated sigh, stealing the basketball in Jim's hands. "It's when you fear of getting hit in the head with a basketball, or any type of sport ball in general." She started to dribble along the path as Jim and I followed her to the park.

The three of us decided to hang out today before Lily leaves for California, and Jim for Washington DC. It was all very sad to see my friends go their separate ways, but then they would only be going for the summer. It was kind of unfair that I would be stuck here in this small town for two months with an (cough asshole cough) while my friends would be having the best time of their lives.

Lily and I sat down under the shade of the oak tree, and watched Jim dribble the ball up towards the hoop. I leaned against the familiar scratchy bark then relaxed; closing my eyelids to the sounds of birds chirping, children laughing and running around, and the faint ring of the ice-cream van. I heard Lily tear the wrapper of a candy, and the small plop as she sucked the flavor into her mouth.

"So... How are they?"

I pried one of my eyes open, and saw Lily's green eyes staring back into mine.

"Kai's rude as ever but other than that, they're fine." I yawned, scratching my head.

"I thought you loved him. At least that's what Little Alicia used to say." Lily snickered.

My cheeks flamed up and I glared at her. "That was a long time ago, Lils. He was just a childhood crush, plus..." I chewed on my lower lip. "I don't really remember him that well. It's like...there's something missing you know. Like...most of my memories with him were like plucked out of my brain or something."

I set my lips into a thin, thoughtful frown and glanced at Lily who was staring at me weirdly. "What?"

She shook her head then smiled slyly. "Nothing. But you gotta admit though... He's cute..." She wiggled her eyebrows at the last part and I pulled a face.

Using the support of my hands, I lifted myself up then wiped the dirt off my dress."You coming?"

"Depends on where you are going." Lily replied, eyeing me suspiciously.

I rolled my eyes and helped her up. "To buy ice-cream, Lily. Jeez..."

She sniggered, crunching the candy inside her mouth into pieces. "Shouldn't we wait for Jim?"

I laid my eyes on our friend who was currently playing one on one with some guy, and shrugged. "You know he gets mad when we intervene when he's playing. Let's just buy him a double scoop. He'll thank us later."
