"Alicia?"

Massaging my temples, I let out a disgruntled snort. "Yeah?"

"Get ready for shopping! Kai's waiting for you!"

Swiping my hair away from my face, I bolted upright. Panic started to spread across my front chest as I ran into my bathroom to wash my face.

Ahhh darn it, I thought, spreading the toothpaste along the brush. I completely forgot about today.

Now let me elaborate why today is a "big day" (at least to my parents), and my stomach churned at the thought.

My father had just gotten a raise and he decided to celebrate it together with the Yoshimotos. So yeah, it was gonna be some boring family dinner with pointless conversations and awkward silences for me and Kai but the adults wanted to waltz.

I still remember the conversation I had with my mom last night; it was still ringing in my ears.

Mom: Your father and I has canceled the dinner at Novelty Hotel.

Me: That's cool....

Mom: ........ We're going to waltz!!!

Me: (spits out orange juice) What on Earth for?!

Mom: (grabs my shoulders and gives a little squeeze) Well, your father and I hasn't waltzed in a long time. The last time was at a—

Me: Garbage disposal. I get that part. But why waltz? Who's going to play the piano? Where?

Mom: (shoots a sly smile) You'll see....

Basically, we were going to waltz at some party that Father's co-worker is throwing. I have to help find Kai to find a suit and now I'm running late. Life's hard.

Giving my face a last splash of cold water, I shivered my way to the closet.

"Alicia!"

"Coming!" I bellowed back, all the shouting getting on my nerves. "Give a girl some time to change, won't you?"

Slipping on a causal T-shirt and a pair of jeans, I trudged my way down, frantically combing my hair with my fingers.

I reached downstairs with a tired smile, shooting an apologetic look at Kai. He just smiled smugly and sauntered out. Ugh, insufferable prick. Ever since the day he carried me asleep on the way back home, he's been....weird, I guess. And the fact that he literally threw me on the bad was a major turn off and my back still ached from the impact.
