Where Darry was left off in the book was when he, Ponyboy, and Sodapop all decided not to fight anymore. Well I can tell you that Darry was sure to keep his promise with his little brothers, even if it was hard at sometimes more than others. Darry continued to work roofing houses while he put Ponyboy through the rest of high school, then college. After Ponyboy graduated college, Darry started going to night classes, and got a business degree. During those night classes, he met a soc girl named Sandra and they started to date. Even though Sandra was a soc, those kinds of things didn't come between them falling in love. Things got pretty serious between them, so they moved in together at Sandra's small house on the west side of town.

Darry really wanted to marry her, but money was tight. Money was tight because even though Sandra's parents were extremely rich, they completely disapproved of Sandra being with Darry. They wanted her to be with a soc boy, not a greaser that roofs houses. They thought their daughter could do better, but by the time they confronted Sandra, she was already in love with Darry. So now, all ties are cut with Sandra's family, including the money tie. Darry wants to maintain a good, soc like life for Sandra, but doesn't really have the money to do so, let alone buy her a ring.

One day, the owner of the roofing company called Darry in and had a long talk with him. The owner of the roofing company felt as if he had grown too old for the manual labor that owning the company required, so he gave the company to Darry, making him the owner. Darry was over joyed, and the very next week (After getting a hefty pay raise of course) Darry bought a beautiful ring and proposed to Sandra. Sandra was extremely happy, and obviously said yes

(I mean, who wouldn't say yes to this face?)

With the money he made from his new business, Darry paid off all his debt, and fixed up their house almost to brand new. Darry and Sandra became very wealthy because Darry continuously expanded the company, and they became very well known in the town of Tulsa. Soon, Darry and Sandra had kids. Their oldest are identical twin girls named Amy and Ally. Their youngest is a boy named James. Although when Amy, Ally and James are all teenagers, socs and greasers have become less popular of groupings, and everyone is more together, the West side of town will always be nicer. And among groups of teens, people who live on the West side will always be socs, and people on the East side will always be greasers.

Ally does well in school and is very popular. She fits right in with what is left of the soc population. Amy on the other hand, spends most of her time on the East side of town with  her friends. Most of her friends live there, much unlike Ally. Amy mostly identifies as a greaser, and acts like it too. Secretly, Darry likes Amy a little more than Ally, because Amy reminds him of himself when he was growing up. Amy is definitely a trouble maker, unlike Ally who does well in school and is a teacher's pet, Amy has been hauled into the police station several times, but because of Darry's higher status in Tulsa, no jail time or serious charges have been filed. Even though Ally and Amy are identical, they couldn't be more different.

James is a real jock. Being only a year younger than his sisters, he was also a very popular teen. He was star football player (Just like his dad) On the high school football team. He also played basketball for the school, and won several championships for Will Rogers High. He was class president and prom king, getting all his popularity tips from his older sister Ally. But, although he was a jock and definitely identified as a soc, he was very kind and caring. (And good looking) A real heartthrob. He learned to be popular from his sister Ally, but learned to be kind and friendly and compassionate from Amy. Amy told what it felt like when jock boys would make fun of the lower class people, so James never wanted to treat anyone like that, making him the sweetest guy on earth. Even though on the surface of James was a letterman's jacket, underneath was a huge heart. Darry was extremely proud of James. James got a scholarship to college from football, and completed college, just like his older sisters.

Darry and Sandra still live in Tulsa to this day, Darry big and tuff just as he always was. Darry tries to still roof houses, but for anyone at his age it would be hard. So even though he'd rather roof the houses on his own and carrie two bundles of roofing, and play tackle football with his grandkids, he manages his company from the sidelines.

Darry is a great brother, father, and grandfather.
