Little warning: Throughout the book I will use some profanity here and there, sorry!

'Okay honey, are you ready to go?' my mom asked me, I went over everything in my head one more time; Books, earphones, phone, charger, clothes, sunglasses, regular glasses, contacts, sanitary stuff, make-up, etc. etc.

I nodded and hugged my mother, trying to resist opening my suitcase and double-checking if everything was still there. 'I'll miss you, mom' I whispered, pecking her cheek. 'Oh sweetie, we'll miss you too' my dad also hugged me and quickly hid something inside my handbag. 'What is-' but he put a hand over my mouth. 'Don't look until you're there' he winked.

I rolled my eyes, still smirking, and turned to my brother. 'Well, bye! Have fun being an only child!' I joked, he just shrugged and went back to texting.

I stepped outside as the taxi waited for me, stuffing my suitcase in the trunk and closing it. As I put my earbuds in, I sighed as I stepped inside and watched my house disappear in the distance.

So, you excited? My dad signed to me, I nodded and responded Absolutely, thanks again for the trip! He smiled, his dimples showing, which made me automatically smile too.

My dad has been deaf since he was born, so at home, everyone always conversed in sign language. It was tough at first, since I'm not really one for languages, but I got the hang of it after six months or so.

Are you sure you've got everything? My mom joined in, I told her yes. Good, the taxi is already waiting outside. My heart pounded in my chest as I hauled my huge suitcase with me to the taxi.

After finally slamming the trunk closed and receiving an angry look from the driver, I waved goodbye and closed the door.

Trees and houses rushed by, it felt good to be on my way to a new adventure. I'm just scared that they'll laugh at me when I try to open up about something personal. Guess it's time to put up my "badboy act" again. It wasn't really an act, but mostly just to keep people from immediately figuring me out and criticizing me.

'Pi!' 'Canc!' we hugged each other after I opened the door. Cancer was my best friend, and since she lived next door, we left for the airport together. 'Aaah I can't believe it's happening, the taxi is already here!' she squealed, I grabbed her hands and looked into her sparkling eyes. 'I knooow, but calm down a little, okay?' she looked guilty and nodded, the spark in her eyes never leaving. 'I'll be there in a sec, just going to say goodbye' Cancer nodded understandingly, and went to put her big bag in the trunk.

I walked inside the house again, seeing my dad already there. 'Hi darling, all packed?' he asked, giving me a bear hug, I nodded against his chest. 'I'm sure this'll do you good. And...' he swallowed 'your mother would be very proud to see how grown-up you've become' tears sprung to my eyes as I went for a hug again. Even though my mom had an accident about a year ago, sometimes I swear I could sense her presence.

'Thanks, dad. Will you be okay?' I wiped my tears as he chuckled. 'Don't you worry about me. If I feel lonely, I know I'm welcome next door' I sighed in relief as I swung my backpack over my shoulder, grabbing my suitcase as well. 'Well, here I go' I smiled at him, and turned around, trying not to cry.

I still decided to stop at the doorstep and look at my father. 'Dad?' 'Yeah?' 'I love you' I just felt like I had to say it. 'I love you too, kiddo. Now run before the taxi will leave without you' he joked, I laughed as I ran towards the taxi, Cancer already inside, on her phone.
I also got inside, and she saw on my face what went down inside. She just smiled and hugged me, putting an earbud in my ear, and playing our all-time favourite song: The spark by Afrojack. (I know it's "old", don't judge me)

'Mom, I'm leaving!' I shouted upstairs, when I heard her running down to give me a big hug. 'Okay, will you be good?' she asked, giving me a worried look. 'Mum, there are grown-ups with us, we'll be fine' I assured her, which wasn't entirely untrue.
There would be counselors on the flights with us, but we were free to go once we were at the location. 'Yes, yes, you alreay told me' she nervously chuckled, hugging me again.

'Is um... is dad coming to say goodbye?' I hesitantly asked, rubbing the back of my neck, and already knowing the answer. My mom sadly shook her head. Even though I didn't expect him to, it still hit me hard that he wasn't even coming downstairs.

My dad and I have been on better terms, honestly, but after coming out to my parents like, a month ago, he started to distance himself from me.
I guess he just didn't like the idea of his boy being in a relationship with another boy. It was especially hard for him since his side of the family was hispanic, and catholic.

Luckily, my mother did take it well. 'I'm sorry amor, but you know he doesn't hate you, right?' she hopefully questioned, I nodded and fake-smiled. 'Of course. Bye mum, te amo' I hugged her and walked out the door. Here I go!

I took a deep breath as I stepped outside, dragging my suitcase along. 'Well, bye mum, bye dad!' I waved at them and slammed the taxi-door shut behind me.
Me and my family were not the people for sentimental BS, we just thought it was obvious that we loved each other as a family, so we didn't have a very emotional goodbye. Of course I was going to miss them, but I'll manage.

I blew a bubble with my chewing gum and put my headphones on, crossing my legs, digging through my messy handbag, and realizing I forgot my eyebrow-pencil.

'Wait! Stop!' I yelled at the driver, he immediately stopped the car. 'What? Is something wrong?' he asked, I opened the door and ran as fast as I could on my combat boots, my mom already knowing what was up and running upstairs. As I arrived back at the front door, she threw it at me, along with a hand-mirror. I blew her a kiss, grinned and ran back to the taxi, the driver rolling his eyes and getting back into the front.

I quickly closed the door behind me when the car started driving again. 'Seriously? You teens-' he mumbled the last part. I didn't really care and put my headphones on again.
