''Mother, has my letter come in yet?'' I ask as I take a seat across from my mother at the breakfast table. Of course I'm not worried about the possibility that I'm not a wizard. But finally getting that damned letter from Hogwarts would really ease my nerves. Sadly, my mother shakes her head. her gray hair sways at the movement. My mother is a strong woman. Just like all the other people in my family. ''Maybe your father accidentally brought it to his study when he sent Lisa to retrieve it for him.'' My mother suggests. Lisa is our maid. The abolition of house elves hit my family pretty hard. Thankfully for my father, there are also human people who wish to work for families. The difference is that they require payment. Not like we can't afford it or anything, it's just that- ''We're you listing to me?'' My mother asks. I look up from the plate in front of me. ''Did Lisa make this?'' I point at my plate. ''I asked you a question.'' My mother says as she places down the book she was reading. She stares at me with her piercing green eye. Yes, one green eye. My mother is works at the magical law enforcement patrol. During one of her fights against out of control trolls, one of the scratched out her eye. Resulting in the left part of her face partially being covered by an eye patch. you can still see part of the scar peeking out from under the eye patch.
''Elric Sullivan Perry.'' My mother speaks in her usual strict tone. I look at her. ''Yes mother.'' My mother sighs. "Listen boy, I know you are smart but you need to learn how to pay attention. You'll need it at Hogwarts.'' My mother says. I look down. ''Yes mother.'' It sounds like an apology now. My mother closes her eye and nods. ''Fair enough, I asked you if you could go and check up on your father. He's in his office.'' She says. ''Can't sister do that?'' I ask as I finally take my cutlery from the table and start eating my breakfast. ''Your sister has to go shopping with her...boyfriend.'' Mother obviously still has trouble calling the muggle my sister is dating her boyfriend. It's not her fault. It's just how she has been raised. ''I see.'' I say as I lay down my cutlery again. I only ate half of my breakfast but I'm not hungry anymore. ''I'll bring father his breakfast. Will you call me when a letter arrives?'' My mother simply nods. ''Thank you, have a good morning mother.'' I say as I take the plate from the head of the table and start heading up the stairs.
My family isn't really a loving family I must admit that. We didn't have game nights, we don't usually speak to each other about our issues. We are taught to deal with them ourselves. So I'm not surprised that when I enter my father's office he only nods at me. ''I came to bring your breakfast.'' I say as I venture further into the room and close the door behind me. ''Good, place it there boy.'' My father says as he motions at the corner of his desk. I do as he says. ''Father, I had a question.'' I say. ''Is it a short one, you know I'm busy boy.'' My father says. He's right. It's hard work to be the leader of the magical law enforcement patrol. ''It's a short one.'' I acknowledge. My father nods. ''Proceed.'' ''I was wondering if...maybe you accidentally brought my Hogwarts letter to your office without realizing.'' I say carefully. ''Telling my father he might have made a mistake is treading dangerous grounds. My father scoffs. ''I'll check.'' He says as he turns his chair to search through the tower of letters behind him. I suddenly realize my father hasn't looked at me since I entered the room.
''Ah, yes, it seems you were correct.'' My father says. He turns back around and offers me a small letter with a blood red seal. I look from my father to the letter in his hand with shock on my face. ''Go on boy, grab it, I don't have all day.'' He says. I swallow and take the letter from him. ''Thank you father.'' I say as I stand up from the chair at his desk and start heading out the door. seconds before I open the office door my father suddenly speaks up. ''Oh and son.'' I look around to see my father smiling at me. ''I'm proud of you boy.'' He says. I smile back at him. ''Thank you father.'' I repeat myself. My father nods. ''Now go and tell your mother.'' He says as he starts paying attention to his work again. I nod and smile at my father even though he can't see it. My father rarely smiles at me. It makes me happy every time.

"This is beautiful.'' Lisa says as we both enter diagon alley. We used the floo network to get here. Since Lisa is a muggle who knows about magic and I'm someone who, simply has never been here before we are both quite shocked at the beauty of this simple alley. ''What should we get first.'' Lisa says. ''My wand, please.'' I say as I take Lisa's hand and lead her through the alley. My mother explained where every store is and I've been excited about getting my own wand for ages. ''As you wish. It's over there yes?'' Lisa asks as she points at a small shop not too far from us. ''I believe so.'' I say as I press my way through the crowd to get to the small shop. I accidentally bump into a tired looking guy with brown curls. He's holding a small basket with an ordinary looking cat in it. ''What a cute little buddy.'' Lisa says as she pokes her head around my side. The boy doesn't take his eyes off the cat while he answers. ''I agree.'' ''I think it's a quite an ordinary one.'' I say as I bow down a bit to face the kitten. ''I agree again, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing.'' The boy says. ''Maybe.'' I answer as I straighten my back. ''I apologize for bumping into you.'' I say. The boy shrugs. ''It's cool, I gotta go now though.'' He says. ''Alright, goodbye.'' I say as I turn my back to the boy and start heading towards the store when Lisa grabs my arm. ''That was rude Elric.'' She says while looking at me with a judging expression on her face. I tilt my head. ''Really, oh, well, I'll have to apologize again.'' I say as I turn around only to see that the boy already left. ''Oh.'' I say. ''Oh never mind, just keep going.'' Lisa says as she starts pushing me towards the store.
''Oh, another Perry.'' Is the first thing the man says as I enter the dusty store. ''Are you just as kind as your sister or are you cold like your parents?'' The man asks. I raise my eyebrow. ''Maybe a mix of the two.'' Lisa says as she starts heading to the counter. ''I'm here to help Elric get a wand. How much mon- gold is it?'' She asks. The man behind the counter tells her the price and while Lisa pays him I sneak passed them and start strolling through the maze of wands. ''Elric, you're not allowed in there. Get back here.'' Lisa yells at me. I ignore her. ''Leave him be nanny.'' I hear the man behind the counter say. I chuckle unwillingly, Lisa hates being called nanny. Suddenly a feeling of ecstatic flows through my body. I turn my head 90 degrees and look at the box besides me. It seems to be emitting light. I carefully take the box from the bookcase and open the box.
''Yes, that is quite a beautiful specimen.'' The man from behind the counter appeared next to me out of no where. Strangely, he didn't scare me. ''I agree.'' I copy the words from the boy I met outside. ''Let me see.'' The man says as he takes the wand from my hand and starts walking back to the counter. As soon as he reached it he starts writing in the big book laying on it. ''Holly wood wand with a dragon heartstring core. 13 inches. slight yielding flexibility.'' The man mutters as he writes it down. ''Name?'' ''Elric Sullivan Perry.'' I answer him. ''Very well, nice doing business with you Elric. I hope you're the last of your families spawn.'' The man says. I frown and open my mouth to object but Lisa is already working me out the door. Clearly, she wasn't really in the mood for a wizard duel.
''Next thing on the list is a pet.'' Lisa says. I frown again. ''Really?'' I ask. Lisa shakes her head. ''No, but I want to look at kittens. So we're going there next.'' She says as she takes my hand and leads me to the pet store.
About half an hour later we leave the store with a small barn owl names Achilles on my shoulder. ''I wanted to look at more kitty's.'' Lisa complains next to me. "Too bad, we're going to buy books now.'' I say as I stare at the owl on my shoulder. His brown eyes stare back at me. I like this owl. His personality suits mine quite well. ''Fineee.'' Lisa whimpers as she follows me through the busy street.
