I came out of my room the next day in a tanktop and shorts. It was raining very bad. I smelled the delightful smell of eggs. pancakes, and bacon.
"Hey, Em." My Dad called out to me while I got off the last step.
"Sup." My brother said with a mouth full of food.
I just walked pass them to the couch where I left a book the night before. I was thinking of calling up David but I don't know, he could be getting ready for school. He's probally busy with school work or on saturdays he has a job.
Ring ring ring
The phone rang from the kitchen.
My Dad picked it up and said "Hello? Oh she's right here." Dad handed me the phone. "It's David."
I quickly grabbed the phone and walked out back to the screened patio. "Hey David."
"Hey, Emily." He sounded kind of upset.
"David what's wrong?'' I asked concerned into the phone. "You sound upset."
"It's my Dad," He sniffled.
"Is everything okay?" I asked.
"No."
"What's wrong?" I was getting worried.
"My Dad has Leukimia." David said having trouble getting the words out.
"Cancer?" I was shocked.
"Mm hmm."
"David you have to leave in half an hour." I heard a voice say on the other end of the phone. By the sound of it, it was his uncle.
"Okay, Tedd." He turned around and told his uncle before talking to me again. "Sorry, Em. Dad has to go to the hospital very soon. Their doing an MRI."
"Okay, just say when you have to leave. Wait, aren't you suppost to be in school?"
"Yeah, they said I can have a week off. You know because of my Dad and all." His voice sounded like he was going to start crying.
"You want me to come over sometime?" I suggested.
"Okay, that'd be nice." He said. "I really need some comforting right now."
"David!" Tedd said to David. "We can't be late. May I?" I heard him say.
"Sure." David replied. "Tedd needs to talk to you Em."
David handed Tedd the phone. "Hi, Emily." Tedd said.
"Hi, Tedd." I replied.
"Um, David's dad is currently at the hospital. He's not doing to well." He said in a whisper.
"I'm going to be praying for you guys." I said.
"Thank you Emily."
"Can I have five minutes, Tedd?" I heard David say on the other end.
"Sure." I heard Tedd say.
I heard russling as the phone moved around. "Emily, I'm really scared." David said in a raspy voice.
"It's going to be okay." I assured him.
"No, it won't. The cancer hit him like a train. I don't think he'll make it." He paused for a second. "I have to go."
"Okay." I said. "Bye."
And with that we hung up.
