That night I had a strange dream about my Mom. Seeing her in her deathbed at the hospital looking worst every second. She was crying while holding my hand tight and told me, "No matter what, I'll always be with you," Tears welled up in my eyes as she slowly closed her eyes and her hand slipping away from mine. Her monator started beeping really loud with a straight line going across the screen. That's when I knew she was dead. Doctors came in with tools and tried to bring her back. It was no use. Me, Timmy, and Dad all where crying. They told us our Mom was gone and it was too late to save her. We watched as they wheeled her out of the hospital room with a white blanket over her body. I tried screaming for her to come back but Dad and Timmy held me back. NO NO NO!!!!
I woke up in the middle of the night in a sweat with a bloody scream escaping my lips. Timmy ran into my room and said if everything was okay? I just nodded but I guess he didn't fall for it because he walked to my bed and wrapped me in a bear hug. "Emily I know nothings okay. What happened? Was it a bad dream?"
I just stared at him with tears running down my face. "It was Mom." I managed to say. This isn't the first time I had this dream. It all happened before. There was no way to change the dream because it was real.
"I miss her too, Em." He said while hugging me. These dreams would make him cry too. " Please don't cry. Everything is fine now. Go back to bed." Timmy said as he unwrapped the hug and walked out of my room leaving the door wide open. I hate it when he does that but I was too tired to call back to him to close it. So I just went back to sleep.
That next morning Timmy came running into my room to wake me up to see if the dream was gone. It was. I ran down stairs with Timmy and sat at the table with Dad to eat breakfest.
"So we're all going to the beach today right?" Dad asked.
" Yeah" said Timmy. "But we can't go too early. Sharks could be out. Shark Week is almost here." Timmy is addicted to Shark Week. He knows everything about sharks from it. But the weird thing is that it's late June and Shark Week dosn't start until the middle of August. I just don't understand that kid sometimes. He actually thinks Shark Week is during the week of when sharks come out. It's just a thing they run on Discovery Channel during one week of the summer with like reenactments of real shark attacks. It's pretty good.
"Gees, bro." I said. "Shark Week is over a month away."
"I know but it could happen."
Me and Dad laughed knowing that shark attacks never happen at this small beach. We finished eating and me and Timmy went upstairs to get ready for the beach the same as our Dad while we all grabbed our boards.
We ran down to the beach where I met up with David and his Dad.
"Hey David. This is my Dad." I told him.
"Hey, Em, this is my Dad, the comedian." He replied.
"Where's Tedd?" I asked.
"Busy doing I don't know what." David said.
David's Dad turned to him. "David, he's busy at work." David's Dad turned to us. "He got called in early this morning."
"What's he do?" My Dad asked.
"Real estate."
His Dad changed the conversation and started making jokes and we laughed so hard. David and his Dad got to meet Timmy and my Dad was happy I made a good friend and he actually became good friends with David's Dad. We all went surfing and cheered each other on. It was great. But right in the middle of all our fun Timmy's phone rang from the beach. He ran to it and answered and started talking. We all just kept having fun in the water and I caught an epic wave.
A few minutes later Timmy came running back to the beach and called out to Dad. "Dad, come here." Me and Dad headed out of the water. "Dad, that was Jon, can he come over here for a few weeks and stay with us. He just wants to spend summer with his best friend. And I bet Em can't wait to see him."
I gave Timmy a smirk evil like, "I hate Jon." I turned to Dad. "Daddy..."
"I'm sorry sweetie but it's his friend and it's his chose." Dad said to me.
"Fine." I said. I looked out at the water to see David and decided to go back out there. "I'm going back to the water."
I ran back to the water followed by my brother and Dad. We kept playing in the water then decided to get out after a couple hours. We all decided to head out for dinner at the beach diner.
When we got there and got seated I sat next to David and Timmy as my Dad and David's Dad sat next to each other.
We started talking and David's Dad was making jokes. "So then I was like," stated David's Dad. "Ho ho ho, double the electricaty double the fun. That is the year we lost the Christmas lighting contest with blowing up the lights and having our elf fall off the roof on to the judge's head and knocked him out." We all started laughing as our food arrived.
"Oh, Dad." David said a little humiliated. "Do you have to tell people that story. I've heard it like a billion times."
"Dad, you are so embarrassing." Came a girl's voice from behind me. I turned to see a young teenage girl, maybe a year or two older than I and David. She had a sweet smile and had wavy light brown hair.
"This is my older sister, Sophie." David said, pointing at her.
"Hey." She said.
"Hi." The rest of us greeted.
"Sweetie," Mr. Carson said, "Come sit with us."
"I'm meeting up with some friends. Maybe later." She said as she started walking away. We all said goodbye and went back to our conversation.
We laughed some more and started eating our hamburgers. We where talking about one of Mr. Carson's earliest memories. As I laughed, I saw the view of David's hand sliding on the leather of the booth towards me. He gently put his hand on top of mine and I gave him the permission to hold on to it by slipping my fingers through his. As everyone else talked, we looked up at eachother. Staring into eachothers eyes. David showing the hint of a smile.
