Carl's POV

After 5 hours of driving, we finally pulled up to an all-too-familiar place, Alexandria.

Enid was asleep with her head on my shoulder so I lightly shook her to wake her up.

Once she was woken up, we followed everyone outside.

"The gate's closed and locked," my dad mumbled.

I turned to Enid. "Do you still have those pegs that you used to climb over the walls?" I asked her.

She nodded and unzipped her backpack, pulling out 5 pegs.

When I reached for them, she said, "I can do it."

"It's okay," I assured. "I got it."

After giving me a tiny glare, she handed the sticks over and I jogged up to the wall.

Fitting the sticks through the holes in the wall, I used them like they were ladder rungs as I climbed.

I finally got to the top and stood on the watch deck, overlooking the community.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. All of the houses were still intact, except for one that had gone up in flames. There was still room for everyone.

There were a few bodies lining the streets but we could clean those out easily.

This could work.

I unlocked the gate and dropped down to the ground, pulling it open.

Everyone filed in.

People that originated from JC's group looked around in wonder.

Enid remained at the back of the group, her arms crossed, her gaze focused on the ground.

While everyone started to explore the territory, I walked up to my girlfriend, causing her to look up at me.

"What's been going on with you?"

Enid looked to the side before asking, "Why are all of you treating me like a kid?"

Confused and defensive, I said, "We're not. You're pregnant so we don't want you to overwork yourself."

She smiled slightly, rolled her eyes, and scoffed before pushing past me and joining everyone else.
