I packed my bags just enough until OKC and put them in the truck. The town removed Nash's head stone from the cemetery and put it at grandpa's in the front yard.
I had my brother traveling with me this season and the rest of the following. He would have wanted to do it no matter what. I put the bags in the back seat of his truck and set him in the passenger seat. Yes the three hearts of him.
Two years ago age sixteen
I got up and smiled as I got dressed. Today Nash and I were going to help grandpa at his ranch. I ran down the hall. "Where you going Nick?" He asked catching me.I giggled at my brother and wiggled out of his grip. "Remember we're going to help grandpa?" I told him. He smiled and I ran out the door to his truck. We jumped in the cab and he started it up. New Year's Day was tomorrow and we turned sixteen two days ago.
I looked down at the ring on my finger that he gave me. I got him a necklace and we both loved our gifts from each other. We pulled up to grandpa's ranch and he punched in the code.
We both knew it by heart as often as we come over. Our parents always didn't want us around the bulls or the cattle. They didn't even know we both were on the rodeo team. I was a bullfighter and Nash was a bull rider.
Nash parked in front of the barn and we grabbed our leather gloves. Moving hay and feeding cattle for grandpa during the winter was my favorite. It meant quality time with my brother. I slipped my gloves on and started moving bales to his truck.
He set bags of cattle feed in the back near the tailgate. I got down when we had enough food and hay and closed the tailgate. I got up on the side of the truck and rode to the first gate.
I jumped down and opened gates for Nash as we went through the pastures feeding. He dumped cake while I pitched hay. This was quality time with my brother. When we were done we checked the fence line and fixed it where it was needed.
Then went up to the house. Grandpa always had warm food and drinks for us when we came over to help him during the winter. I pulled my gloves off and set them on the console.
"Where do those go baby sis?" Nash asked me. I picked them up and put them in the glove compartment. "Better big bro?" I asked. He smiled. "Much better." He told me. We pulled up to the house and he cut the engine.
We entered the warm house and pulled out boots and coats off. Thirty eight degrees outside and it was almost cold to us. Both of us went into the kitchen to greet grandpa.
He gave us something warm to drink and we talked until lunch was ready. Again after eating we sat around talking. Especially about this rodeo season. That night we watched a recorded PBR event we had.
Present day
I pulled up to Madison Square Garden in New York City and got out. It's colder here than back home. I pulled the collar of Nash's Carhart coat up over my bare neck and ears. It's the day before it all gets started and I had to check in with the head. The one that allowed me to be here.I walked in through the entrance and put the collar down and saw Cody. "Follow me." I did what he said and followed him to where ever I was supposed to be.
Of course I'm new to this and he was the closest to a newby. We entered the bullfighters' lounge, Frank, Shorty, and Jesse were sitting around talking. "Hey it's the rookie." Shorty said when he saw me. Frank got up to greet me. "I don't think we ever got your name."
"Nicky. Nicky Jaxon." I told them. "Have you ever been called Nick?" Shorty asked. "The only person that can call me that is my twin brother." I told them. They gave me my jersey. It looked just like the others except it was orange. "Sweet!" I said smiling.
I put my vest on over my tank top and sports bra. Then pulled my padded shorts on. Then I put my cover shorts on and jersey. I fixed my shin guards and put my shoes on. "Come on Nicky it's time." One yelled.
I grabbed my black felt hat with my brother's hat band on it and stuck it on my head. I looked like them except I had long dirty blonde hair and a little bit less bulky as them. Like you could tell I was a girl.
Three nights, we'll all be rotated around. I was in it tomorrow night but was on stand by with Frank. We went over waiting for it to start. "Don't worry about those bulls out there. The guys and I are wanting you to watch how they act tonight so you get what their going to do." He told me.
I nodded, he was a person I could get advice from on my figure and how I would need to improve. 'Alright this is what we've been waiting for Nash.' I said in my mind. I knew that if he was here in person he'd be smirking.
Halfway through they took a pause. Flint went out then asked all of the bullfighters to come out. We all walked out to where he was standing. He looked at us one then again.
"You guys get a new member?" He asked coming closer. The guys chuckled and I rolled my eyes. Flint is a real character. "Come over here tiny." I tried not to laugh at the what he called me.
I walked over to him. "So your a bullfighter?" He questioned. I nodded. "Home state?" "Oklahoma." "That explains it. There must be something in the water there in that state because two from there and now a woman from that state being a bullfighter."
I smiled brightly as he looked at the crowd. "Oh. Name?" He asked. "Nicky." I told him. "Wow you are a real guy. Man you should have been a male. Especially doing what you are."
I rolled my eyes at the comment. "Well we've gotta continue so good luck and I wish you the best Nicky." He said as we walked out of the ring. "Flint loves to mess around with us." Jesse told me.
"Yeah anytime too." I added.
