For once I beat the guys to our next destination. I sat in the Honda Center parking lot looking out at the road. Then got out to check it out. The bulls were already here and I wanted to see them other than in the arena ring.
Five cowboys were talking as I walked over to see the bulls. I had my pass on so I could go anywhere except the cowboys' lounge. One turned and I recognized him as Bonner Bolton. Then the others turned to face me.
Sean Willingham, Jess Lockwood, Mike Lee, and Stetson Lawrence. I stopped in front of them. "Your Nicky aren't you?" Mike Lee asked. I nodded quietly. "Your one crazy girl, but brave." He told me.
I shrugged. "I'm guessing you want to see those things when their not trying to pummel us after a ride." Stetson Lawrence said. I nodded shyly trying not to flip out. "Then follow me." Jess Lockwood said. Sean Willingham and Mike Lee looked at him like are you serious? I tried not to crack up.
He held his arm out and I took it. I think someone has a crush on me. I rolled my eyes and he led me down through the bull pens naming each of them and adding facts that I already knew about each.
"I think she already knows more about them than he does." One of the guys said as they followed behind. I nodded and stuck a thumb up behind my back.
"She does and she's listening to what we're talking about more than listening to him." I silently chuckled as we came to the last bulls. I turned to face Jess. "Oh did I mention that me and my brother watched PBR since we were seven years old?" I asked him.
The smile on his face disappeared and his cheeks flushed red. Aw I made him feel embarrassed in front of these veterans. But he was cute when he did turn red.
I smiled and made him even more red. "I think someone has a crush on a bullfighter." One of them whispered aloud.
"Shut up." Jess said then turned and left me there. I blushed and watched him leave all of us. He is pretty dang cute if you ask me.
Jess' POV
This girl just embarrassed me in front of the guys I've been watching for years. I told one of them to shut up and stormed away. I'd have to admit she was beautiful. It was more or less her eyes that caught my attention.I sat down outside and tried to get her off my mind. The other four bullfighters went in and I was left outside by myself to think about how I just turned into the biggest idiot in PBR history.
Five years ago age thirteen
The groundhog saw its shadow. Nash and I were swinging in the barn with Rodney on the chilly February day. Grandpa was in his office doing paperwork as us kids played. Our friends never went over to our house. They didn't mind not going over there because of our parents. They started with alcohol and then were selling drugs.
Rodney swung out and the rope slipped out from under him. Nash and I ran over to him. He tried to sit up but complained that his leg and arm hurt. "Nick go get grandpa." Nash told me.
I ran to the office and got grandpa. He came out and checked Rod out. "Let's get him to the ER. Nash go to the house and get my cell phone." Nash got up and ran to the house. Grandpa got the truck and we helped Rod into the truck after securing him on a piece of plywood.
Nash and I rode in the bed of the truck with our friend to the hospital. Once there Rodney's parents and little brother were waiting on us. His dad and grandpa got him inside.
We waited until we were told his leg and arm was broken. It was a complete accident that he got hurt that bad.
Present day Nicky's POV
I sat in the lounge talking with the guys. "Hey I overheard this from a few of the bull riders that Jess has had a huge crush on you since night one." Jesse told me."Well I kind of embarrassed him in Anaheim when he offered to show me the bulls and tell me about each one." We were in Kansas City, Missouri. I put my gear on and we walked out of the lounge area.
"Um Nicky can I talk to you?" Jess stopped me. "Sure." I said. We stood against the wall near the cowboys' lounge. "Um I'm sorry about how I reacted when I showed you the bulls at the last event. I should have asked you if you knew about them before I ranted." He said scratching the back of his neck.
"It's fine. I actually enjoyed walking with you as you did." I told him. He blushed a little and smiled. "You did?" I nodded. "Um would you like to do something with me later?" He asked.
"Sure." I nodded. I couldn't turn him down because he was too stinkin' cute. Yup I've also got a crush. I walked over to the gate. "Your in tonight, Nicky." Frank told me.
It was me, Cody and Frank. We went out into the ring and waited for the first bull. "Pearl Harbor is up first tonight. Jess Lockwood is going to be riding this bull."
"Ooh it's your crush." Cody teased. I rolled my eyes waiting for the bull.
Hey I'm going to clear things up now. Parts in each chapter will either tell you if it's a few years ago with an age or it will say present day.
The underlined italics is before Nash's death and the plain writing is after Nash's death. So if you saw something like this: he grabbed the rope and started swinging it. That would be past tense and it will keep on going backwards throughout the rest of the story until the twins are born. The rest is regular story.
You can even read the book backwards but just those parts then read the book frontwards to read more.
