"Hey is that Jo?" Izsac asks glancing at the girl who climbs out of the impala.
Caspian immediately recognized her, how could he not? They had been childhood friends.
"Who else owns an impala?" Caspian hisses back.
"Hey you two!" Johanna yells at the two teen boys.
Caspian and Izsac look up and are met with Johanna glaring at them while leaning on her car. Caspian nearly shudders, Johanna's glare is not nice to be at the receiving end of.
"Watch where you're going next time!" She shouts casting one last glare before grabbing her backpack and slamming the door. She walks off to the front of the school, 'accidentally' running into Caspian with her shoulder.
When she's out of ear shot, Izsac nudges Caspian and pokes his side.
"Hey your hot chick's actually back for the first day of school," he says.
"Shut up," Caspian says turning a bright shade of red and shoving his friend, who was cackling loudly.
Caspian can admit that it's strange though. Johanna has never been there on the first day of school since middle school.
Maybe he does have a little something in his heart for Johanna too. After all, they used to be best friends back in elementary school. Since her parents died she separated herself from everyone and whenever he tried to talk to her, she said a rude or offensive comment. That didn't stop him from trying to talk to her, and getting offended or embarrassed. Eventually Caspian just gave up and stopped talking to her.
"Let's go Cassie or we're gonna be late," Izsac says, pulling on Caspian's arm, alarming the other teen.
"It's Caspian," he says rolling his eyes but following the tall boy into the school.
They walk down the hallways talking about stupid stuff including video games and food. As they come closer to Caspian's home room they slow down.
"Oh you got Ms. Braden that sucks," Izsac says slapping Caspian on the back.
Ms. Braden has been known for giving detention for anything and everything. So no talking whispering or fumbling with your hands because otherwise all your free time is gone.
Caspian sighs, hoisting up his backpack higher on his shoulder and walking in.
Sitting in the back corner with her feet up on her desk was the one person he wished he could never see again.
Johanna Volfson.
And the only empty seat is right next to her.

After storming through the front doors of the school, Johanna speed walks to her first class. Even though she hates school she despises being late. As she rushes through the hallways trying to find her classroom, she runs straight into somebody's tall body.
"I'm really sorry!" The somebody stutters trying to help Johanna up.
"Yeah ok well watch where you're going next time," she spits as she gets up, ignoring his hand held out to help her. She starts to walk away when she feels a hand on her shoulder. With her lighting quick reflexes, she grabs the hand on her shoulder and twists around holding the arm in a surely painful position.
"Pretty good Anna," the somebody says smirking in approval. "You've improved further still."
"It's Johanna for the last time. What are you doing here anyways Phil?" She asks dropping his hand while he rubs his wrist. She looks around but no one seems interested in the small engagement.
"The same case as you," he replies easily, raising an eyebrow and crossing his arms across his chest.
"I'm just going to school Phil. I haven't been given a case," she responds, lowering her voice.
He sighs and rubs his eyes before responding.
"Meet me after school. The authorities said that you were in this case too."
"Phil I'm gonna have homework," she sighs. "And you are too."
He rolls his eyes and checks his phone.
"Your house. 4 o'clock," he says before walking off.
Johanna rolls her eyes and continues rushing to her classroom. Thanks to Phillip, she's going to be cutting it real close to being late.
She sighs again thinking of Phillip. He's had it pretty rough. His parents kicked him out for coming out to them. Eventually he got sent to a foster home and moved around families a lot. His excellent skills in self defense and incredible smarts got him into the agency. They're pretty close friends, they've been through it all.
That doesn't mean that sometimes he isn't a pain in the ass.
As she reaches her classroom, most of the seats are taken up by chattering kids. She walks over to the back corner of the room, where she usually sits, and plops down. She pulls her legs on top of her desk and doodles a flower on her hand.
After a few short minutes, she hears someone's stuff being dropped on the ground, and then a body flop into the chair.
She slightly looks up to see none other than Caspian Edgar.
Her heart pangs a little looking at him. They were best friends when they where younger until the incident happened.
She shudders in her mind just thinking about it.
"Don't look so disappointed Jo," Cas finally says, breaking the silence between them in the loud room.
She sighs to herself. He should really stop using the old nickname for her, it doesn't help her feel any better.
"Trust me I'm plenty disappointed," Johanna replies.
Caspian sighs to himself and remains quiet.
