all good things come to an end, but so do all bad things.

Wes thought everything over as he walked into the school building the next morning. He would just go up to Vanessa, do what he needed to do, and finally get Ness out of this Orion drama. He knew she wouldn't go away that easily, so he figured that he would just make it quick before she could find anything else to ask him to do.

"Hey Ness." he waved lightly, sighing internally. She gave him a sweet smile, and it almost broke his heart. The girl he was in love with, was about to have her heart broken by him. He was so afraid of that happening.

"Look, I need to talk to you about something." He closed his eyes, forcing back the tears that threatened to spill from his eyes. She tilted her head, giggling just a bit.

"Yeah, you know you can tell me anything Wes. Do you wanna go somewhere private?" She asked quietly, starting to lead him away but he stopped her.

"No, it's fine. I just wanted to tell you that I–" he was cut off by the sound of the entrance of the school flying open. Everyone now had their attention either on them or the door. The entire student body wanted to know what was happening.

"Wes, you don't have to do this!" He heard someone say to him. He closed his eyes before turning around and seeing one of his close friends from middle school; Sam Collins.

Wes looked Sam up and down, and he soon realized he'd met Sam before transitioning. He smiled, hugging him.

"Man, you don't understand. I have to do this. If not, Orion will–"

"Do nothing. She won't do anything because I got through to her eventually. We had a long talk, but it doesn't matter now. The point is, she won't be bothering you or Ness anytime soon." He assured him, but Wes had big doubts on this in the back of his mind.

Sam's eyes focused on Vanessa, and he smirked a bit before whispering to his friend. "You still love her don't you?" Wes looked at Ness and his eyes did all the talking he needed.

Later that day, Wes had managed to go without telling Vanessa any part of what happened. He figured it would just be too much. When they were on the phone that night, everything at least seemed to be going well. Vanessa was in the middle of a sentence when suddenly she stopped.

"What's wrong? You okay?" He questioned, all of his tiredness going away suddenly.

"Yeah, just a bit shaken up. But I'm alright." She brushed it off, although she knew she should tell Wes. She didn't want him to worry about her.

unknown caller:
i have a question to ask you.

it's very important

meet me at the lake tomorrow after last period. come alone

She was gonna go, but she was petrified. Maybe she should let someone know. But then they wouldn't let her go by herself. She kept it a secret, telling Wes she was sleepy so she could get off the phone and stare at her ceiling until she could finally fall asleep. Soon though, sleepiness and drowsiness washed over her, and her fears about tomorrow washed away to the back of her mind.

The next day at school, her levels of suspicion were higher than ever. She technically couldn't rule out anyone as a suspect, but they would have to know her number, which somewhat narrowed it down. All of her friends seemed really clueless, and she didn't know whether or not that was a good thing. She just wanted the day to be over.

She soon got her wish, because the felt as if it'd flew by. Once in the parking lot after last period, she gave Wes a half ass excuse as to why she wanted to walk, and after many rebuttals and objections from Wes, he finally decided to let her. Once he sped off in his car, she made her way to the lake.

She crept down the sidewalk, being mindful of her surroundings and praying there wasn't a psycho killer waiting for her. Who could've gotten her number to send a text like that though? She sighed as she neared the lake, and she started looking for a person. She was shaken out of her thoughts when a voice popped in beside her.

"Whatcha doin' Ness?" Cody's voice scared her, and she jumped.

"You're not supposed to be here. What do you want?" She snapped, and he was taken aback.

"Well, I never see you walking so I wanted to know if you and Wes had a fight." He explained as she finally was able to make out a person standing near the trees.

"Look Cody, nothing like that happened. I have to go. Don't bring this up to Wes, he will freak out." She turned into the trees, leaving Cody confused as he continued to walk home.

When she got where she had seen the person standing, there was a mannequin and a camcorder. She went to the last saved video and watched it.

It was a dark screen, but a voice was playing. She could tell they used a voice changer, and it was a little funny.

"Okay, Ness, I found out a lot of things about you from your friends, and I felt like this was the best way to do things. There are three other videos that will lead you to me, and once you find me, you'll either accept or decline my offer. First, go to your favorite place to be with your mom. See you soon, bye"

Now, she wasn't only afraid but petrified all over again. What if they were gonna murder her? She wishes she would've told Wes. She sighed, starting to walk to the mall like her and her mother used to do every Saturday.

The walk didn't take long, and once she got there, one of the cashiers smiled at her and took her into a secluded room with another camcorder. She sat down, playing the last saved video.

"So, you've found the first clue. Okay, two left. Now, go to the place where you had your first kiss. Keep following the clues, you're extremely close." The video ended, and the woman offered to drive her to the beach, where she indeed had her first kiss. She accepted the offer and they were there in almost exactly 20 minutes. She got out and thanked the woman, who insisted it was no trouble at all.

Vanessa searched for a camcorder, which was hidden under a pillar. She assumed it was to keep it away from the tides. She turned it on and went to the last saved video.

"Hey! Only one more left. I'm excited to see you. Go to the place where you went to clear your head as a kid." That one was shorter than the rest, but she knew where she was going. She sighed, her anxiety worse than it had ever been. She didn't wanna be killed.

After a long walk, she'd finally made it to the library. The librarian and her were close, and she was immediately directed into a back room where the camcorder was.

She closed her eyes, turned it on, and went to the last video.

"Close your eyes, and keep them closed until I say open them. The door will open, now." She heard the door to the room open and she almost opened her eyes. "Keep your eyes closed. I know this is a library, but I can't keep my feelings for you quiet anymore. Homecoming is coming in about two weeks, and I wanted to know if you'd do the honor of going with me? Turn around and open your eyes to see the boy asking you out."

Vanessa slowly turned around, the smile on her face evident before she even opened her eyes. She slowly opened her eyes, being met with someone she never would have imagined doing something like this.

She got up and hugged him, tears flowing from her eyes.

"Of course I'll go to homecoming with you, Dakota!"
