it's easy to love what once was, but hard to realize that it is just that.

Vanessa couldn't stop thinking about Dakota's cute way of asking her to homecoming. It had been about a week and a half. Homecoming was in two days from then, and the two were basically inseparable. She couldn't have a decent conversation with any of her friends without them hearing the boy's name, and that was a problem for them; especially Wes.

"Do you ever talk about anything else? I get it, you think he's amazing, you like him. Just date him, will you?" He groaned, and she blushed in response. They sat in his car during lunch, and she would not stop talking about Dakota and how perfect he really was and how lucky she had to be.

Where was Dakota you ask? He had gone to buy them both something to eat, which is the only reason why Wes and Nessa were together. Wes was kind of getting sick of it.

"Well, if you must know, I'm waiting for him to ask to be my boyfriend officially. What if he wants to take it slow?" She giggled at the thought of 'taking it slow' with someone.

"More like what if he wants to take it fast with another girl." He scoffed, and she lightly hit his head, which earned a noise of hurt from Wesley.

"He's not like that! At least, he doesn't act like it." She rolled her eyes, and her friend just sighed and held his head in his hands.

"Wanna know what Dakota is known around school for? He's known for back in freshman year when he–" He was cut off by the car door opening and Dakota looking in.

Sure, Wes and Kota were friends, but that doesn't change the fact that he is known for using and treating girls poorly. He was a fuckboy, and that was the only way to say it.

"Hey babe," Vanessa said, letting him kiss her on the cheek as she started to get out. Wes grabbed her arm.

"How are you just gonna leave during our talk? We weren't done." He looked up at her and she lightly snatched her arm away from him, looking a bit agitated.

"Yeah, we were. I don't want to hear you shit talk the boy I lo– like a lot. You're not being supportive Wes." She grabbed her purse and started to move away from the car.

"Ness! Wait." He said, reaching for her until Dakota smiled at him.

"I can understand you're jealous, but I'm a priority now. Sorry, pretty boy, don't be too down on yourself." He chuckled, closing the door and leaving Wes with his thoughts.

"What does she even see in him?" He thought to himself, sighing before getting out and going back into the school.

"Anyway, I missed you. How are you, pretty girl?" He asked, making her blush and smile.

"I'm good, and how are you? Also, I have another question for you." She looked down, and he used his finger to tilt her chin up.

"What is it? Is something wrong?"

"No, but why didn't you ask me to be your girlfriend before? Like, you want to right?" She asked, feeling a little childish for asking something like that.

"I just wanna wait until I know it's right. We can take things slow can't we?" He smiled at her, and she couldn't help but fall for his eyes. She nodded, biting down on her lip and running her hand up and down his arm.

"Good, wanna go dress shopping for Homecoming?" She smiled, and she surprisingly shook her head. He looked a bit confused.

"I already have a dress, and you can't see it before. That's bad luck, silly." She blushed hard, looking away from him.

"I'm pretty sure that's only for marriage." He laughed, pulling her close to him.

"Well, it'll all be the same one day." He was about to say something back as the bell rang, and they rushed inside. She couldn't get her mind off that. For some reason, she regretted saying that.

For the next couple of days, all that was on Vanessa's mind was homecoming. She had her dress, jewelry, and shoes picked out. All she had to do was wait for Dakota to show up on her doorstep and take her.

She sat on her couch, her mother and father teasing her here and there about her "little boyfriend" as they called him.

When the doorbell rang, she quickly answered, smiling at him as he stood on the door handing her a rose.

"Aw, for me? It's beautiful, thank you Kota." She giggled as he escorted her to his car. The car ride was short and silent, except he kept his hand on her thigh the entire time. She thought that was normal for a good relationship, and so it made her fall for him even more.

Once they'd made it to the school, Vanessa immediately took Dakota over to her friends, who swooned and told her she was so lucky and things of the sort. She didn't see Wes anywhere. Usually, Wes and Vanessa would spend every dance at home. They planned to do that for every dance except prom, and Wes guessed the plan was one sided.

While the pair danced, Dakota heard his phone ringing in his pocket. He groaned, looking down before quickly looking up at her.

"Sorry, I have to take this. I'll be back." He assured her, and she just nodded with understanding.

He went outside, leaving her to go and talk to her friends.

He went to a secluded area, sighing and looking around before answering.

"Hello?" He whispered, waiting for a reply.

"Yeah, the plan is going fine. This is actually too easy." He nodded, a smile on his face.

"I know, I love you too and you know this is for show." He kept looking over the bushes, he was really skeptical.

"Alright, bye Orion. See you later." He hung up, going back to the dance and rejoining Vanessa.

Although he didn't know that Cody, Sam, and Christian all stood near the bushes when they heard Dakota on the phone. Cody's jaw was dropped after he went back inside.

"You know what this means, right?" Sam asked, gasping lightly.

"We've gotta tell Wes."
