Second Chances

2. First Day

I sat my last suitcase in my small closet next to my other ones. Thank God I didn't have to go back to my car again. I think I would've died if I did. Our rooms were on the second floor and there was a lot of back and forth being done.

Remi wasn't here yet but she texted me saying she was on her way. I left my house a little later than I was supposed to because I had to calm Avy down. She was crying her eyes out when it was time for me to leave and wouldn't let go of my leg.

I wound up staying with her for another hour before she was ok with me leaving. Took a lot of explaining and persuading but it worked and here I am. I sat on my bed and took a look around. It's a bit small but not too small.

I'd be comfy in here especially knowing I'm technically rooming with Remi and not some stranger. We have separate rooms but we shared a bathroom which was in the middle of our rooms. That's how most dorms here were set up.

There was a knock on the door causing me to furrow my eyebrows and open it. I raised my eyebrows when I saw Remi. She dropped her purse with a smile and and pulled me in for a hug making me laugh.

"I missed you so much!"

"I missed you too Rem." I said hugging her back.

We let go and she picked her purse up off the floor.

"How was the drive here?"

She sighed and sat down on the floor.

"Girl exhausting! I was ready to pull on the side of the road and sleep."

"All you ever wanna do is sleep." I said in a laugh.

"Oh but trust me I'm about to cut the fuck up this year. And by I'm I mean we."

I shook my head. "No I'm not. You not about to have me failing cause you wanna party."

She side eyed me. "Girl if you don't shut yo gahdamn.." she sat up. "So you tryna tell me you gon be in this damn room all day every day?"

"No bu-"

"Ok then shut up. You know you wanna have some fun so stop with the extra."

"Yea yea whatever." I rolled my eyes.

"Ok so first thing's first.. I'm about to take a nap and then we can go walk around campus a little. Deal?"

"Cool with me. I'm about to call Avy and see how she's doing. She cried her eyes out before I left." I pouted.

"Aww my poor tink."

"I know."

"I love it here. There's so much to do."

I nodded. "We're most definitely gonna enjoy this."

I looked around at all the people walking around campus. Since it's the first day a lot of people are out here too. Everyone looks so happy to see each other and it just makes staying here that much better with all the positive energy.

"Hey you wanna go get something to eat at the little café across campus?" Remi asked looking up from her map.

"Yea sure w-"

I looked past her and I could have sworn I saw a familiar face.

"You ok?"

She looked in the direction I was looking before turning back to me.

I nodded. "Yea I'm fine.. Just thought I saw someone."

I must be seeing things because I know I didn't just see who I thought I saw. I looked again only to see nobody standing there.
