Survive (Annie x Eren)

Chapter 16

Annie's pov

Hanji was in my room, checking me over and all that shit. She asked me a few questions, but I didn't reply with more than a couple words. The voices in my head were getting louder and more manipulative.

'Come on! Hanji probably carries a knife in her pocket, right?'

'Just find SOMETHING!'

I desperately looked around the room as Hanji was babbling on about something. My eye suddenly caught a glimpse of something, and I'd somehow never noticed it before. Apparently neither did anyone else. A mirror.

Mirrors = Glass and Foil.

Glass = Sharp.

Sharp = I can do it. I can finally kill myself.

I smiled to myself for the first time in a long time, and Hanji stopped talking.

"Are you... Smiling?" I looked at Hanji straight in the eyes.

"I'm feeling quite a bit better, that's all."

She seemed a little nervous about it. "That was.. Fast." I just nodded, smiling. Hanji narrowed her eyes.

"Are you sure.. ?" I nodded a little more enthusiastically. "No... Pain? Voices?" The voices had stopped once I'd found the mirror.

"A little bit of pain, but it's bearable, and I can always take painkillers. And the voices? Meh, they're dying down. They've gone for the moment actually." Her jaw dropped.

".. I'll talk to the other doctors and see if we can get you released soon, if you want? You seem.. A lot better lets say. And only in the last few minutes too. Are you sure you're okay?" I nodded.

"Of course, I wouldn't lie about something like this." Truthfully, I wasn't. I was actually feeling a lot better, knowing I could stop going on like this, and the voices had stopped for now along with the pain which wasn't so.. Strong.

"Honestly, I'm okay." She seemed to smile, and nodded. Hanji turned on her heel and walked out.

"We'll see about getting you released soon then!" I liked Hanji, she was friendly, caring and enthusiastic. 

Once the door had closed, I heard some voices outside but didn't pay attention to them. I got up wearily, ignoring my gut that was telling to me to lie back down, to not do it. But the voices in my head came back stronger than ever now, and I was about to go over the edge.

'Now's your chance!'

'HURRY!'

'No don't! Eren could still be alive!'

'No he's not! You saw him get swallowed yourself! JUST FUCKING KILL YOURSELF ALREADY!'

The voices were warring in my head, but the 'good-voice' was being silenced by the 'bad' ones, and I couldn't hear it anymore.

I punched the glass, causing it to shatter. I picked up an especially sharp piece, sat back down and dug it deep into my arm. The door started to open as I did so, but stopped, which made me do it all the faster and deeper. Wincing at the pain, I dropped the glass and watched as blood started gushing out of my arm. I felt dizzy, and collapsed onto the floor, my gaze drifting from the blood soaked blanket to the door that was starting to open.

'ANNIE!' I heard a voice scream my name, and it sounded familiar. But I couldn't see anything properly, it was all blurry. I caught a glimpse of a brown mop, and a glint of green. Eren? No, I must be mistaken, he's dead. I closed my eyes as everything went black and I heard more people come rushing into the room. Then nothing but a single voice in my head.

'You've finally done it! You're rid of this world! Thank god, don't know how much longer I'd have been able to last without going crazy and taking you with me! You should be pro-'

He was cut off by another voice. What?

"ANNIE! LISTEN TO ME, I STILL LOVE YOU, YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME, PLEASE!" I heard sobbing. That sounded like.. Eren. No, I'm imagining, I have to be, he's dead! I opened my eyes, trying to see something but everything was black and I couldn't move.

'You're gone.'
