Survive (Annie x Eren)

Chapter 13

Annie's pov

I woke up in the infirmary; everything was blurry. I heard a faint beeping noise coming from my right, and some rustling of paper and plastic to my left. I could just about make out the outline of a clock on the wall opposite me. "Shit.. What happened?" I mumbled, looking at my own body as my vision cleared up a little. I saw tubes and pipes coming out of my arms, and some weird sticky things on my chest which I guessed was the heart monitor pads, especially since I could hear the beating of my own heart in my ears which seemed to match up with the beeping to my right.

"What the fuck?" I couldn't speak properly, fatigue taking over my body. I turned my head a little to see a nurse next to my bed. 'So that's where the rustling noise was coming from..'

"Oh, sweetie! I apologize, I didn't see you wake up. How are you feeling? Do you need painkillers?" What? Why would I need painkil- 'AARGHH!' I mentally screamed. Now I can see why I would need the painkillers.

I slowly nodded my head, closing my eyes once more. The pain from my abdomen and head was excruciating, but I had no idea why. What happened? Last thing I could remember was being picked up by someone. Wait.. 'Someone saved me.'

I opened my eyes once I heard the nurse come back into the room. 'When did she leave.. ?'

"Here you go sweetie, just take these." She handed me two small tablets and a glass of water. I sat up a little, taking the pills easily. I'd gotten used to taking them, although these were easier to swallow. Just as the nurse turned to leave, I called her back. Although my voice came out hoarse and ragged, unlike what I'd thought.

"Wait.. What.. What happened?" She looked with pity at me.

"You don't remember? You must've blacked out." I nodded a little. "You were in an accident sweetie, with one of the cadets." I raised an eyebrow, confused.

'Must've been the one that saved me?' She didn't seem to be going to say anything else, so I spoke myself.

"Are they .. Okay.. ?" I croaked quietly. She looked at the floor for a few seconds before meeting my gaze again. She shook her head, but left it at that and walked out of the room after saying, "Call me if you need anything sweetie."

'Someone might be dead.. And for what? So that they could save me? I don't mean anything right now, I have nothing to live for.. I'm sorry whoever helped me, whoever gave a shit. I guess that's why I never did...'

I clenched my fist, but felt something in the way. 'Hm? What's this?' I felt it a little more before running my index finger over a button. I looked down. 'Ah, the nurses button.'

I closed my eyes, letting myself drift back off into slumber. Even without Eren's embrace, I fell asleep; I needed it.

Meanwhile...

Eren's pov

I woke up, my body covered by something warm and soft. I figured I was in my bed until I moved my hand and knocked it against something hard, wooden. Peeking my eyes open, I looked around to see myself inside what looked like a tree. I was covered my some moss, and I was lying on some moss mixed with heather. 'Comfy enough I guess..' I sat upright, rubbing my eyes a little. There were 3 holes in the tree, sunlight snaking through. 2 of them were relatively small, but the third was quite big.. Big enough to fit 2 humans through side by side.

'What happened?' I looked around, suddenly aware that I probably wasn't safe. I looked at myself. I was in my uniform, but my 3DMG had been taken away. 'Wha-' And then it came back to me.

Flashback

I woke up to find myself in a wagon, trundling through the woods. Everything was blurry and I felt dizzy. And wet. 'What the fu-'

"He's up!" The familiar voice of Berthold shot through my ears as I turned my head to face him. My head was bumping against the wagon lightly, but soon it became more rough as I realized we'd started going faster.

"Keep him out!"

'Reiner?' Next thing I know, Berthold's solid fist comes crashing down onto the side of my face, and everything goes black.

Aaand back to reality

'Right...' I stood up slowly, holding my hand to my head as it because to pound. I look at my hand to see red. 'Shit!' I continue to hold my hand to my head and walk to the biggest hole in the tree, looking out. I was surrounded by other trees, and I then recognized where I was. I nodded to myself. 'Good place to hide me I guess.' I climbed onto the edge, and sat myself down, my legs dangling helplessly below me. '... Isn't there anything I can climb down on?' I looked around hopelessly, sighing in despair when I saw nothing.

But then it dawned on me.

'If this is real.. Then I'm alive. I'm fucking alive!' And then my mind drifted to Annie. '.. You better be too or I swear to god I will fucking kill you myself.' I buried my head in my hands, sighing. I heard some sticks cracking and leaves rustling so I looked up.

"Reiner?" I looked slightly to the side. "Berthold?"

'So I was right.'
