Am I dead?
"Jesus Christ!" Taehyung heard from above him, a heavy weight resting on his shoulders down to his legs.
Taehyung slowly cracked open his eyes to see Hoseok above him, staring down at him; soft hair messed up, eyes both pained and relieved, breath strained. Taehyung gulped, the other lying on top of him.
What the hell had just happened?!
He tilted his head to see cars passing at their side, the lorry continuing to drive as if nothing had happened. There, Taehyung was laying on the pavement, the gravel rough against his skin, Hoseok above him. Everything was happening in such little time that Taehyung could barely process it.
"A-Are you alright?" Hoseok coughed, his face flustered.
Taehyung gulped, the anxiety and collective terror, trauma and memories all piling up in front of him. Over the years of trying to suppress the events of his past, his emotions were all rekindled.
"T-Taehyung?"
He couldn't speak. The words were trapped in his throat. He couldn't say a word. He just wanted to leave. He couldn't bear seeing his attacker, his bully. Memories flashed before him. Punches. Bruises. Laughter.
Taehyung hesitantly flickered his eyes up to meet Hoseok's.
A mistake.
Those eyes had seen so much. Taehyung in pain, in agony... and even in bliss. It's hard to believe a friend could become an enemy. It makes him wonder whether this boy in front of him remembers their past, or more so, as much as he does.
Taehyung gets so lost in thought he didn't notice he had been staring, didn't notice the change of heart that was visible in Hoseok's eyes.
"T-Taehyung... I'm s-"
"Tae!" a voice sounds loudly from above them. Hoseok's eyes follow Taehyung's eyes guided toward the voice. Hoseok blinks, noticing his expression washing over in comfort, looking up at the figure above the two.
I've never seen him look like this before.
"Hyung." Taehyung breathed, voice almost petrified. Seokjin grabbed ahold of Taehyung's hand and arm, pulling him up.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He fretted over Taehyung like a parent, scanning him over like a hawk, smoothing down his hair, wiping away the slashes of mud and dirt from his face, picking away the small pieces of gravel stuck to his cheek.
"I-I'm fine." Taehyung answered, moving his hand over his clothes to brush away the gravel. Seokjin smiled, pulling him into a tight hug.
"Don't do that again, oh my god, I can barely breath." Seokjin bursted out in a single breath, nuzzling into his shoulder. "I'm so glad that you're-"
"You ass!" The two both jumped as Yoongi cut in. "Why did you do that to me?! I thought you were going to die, you-..." Yoongi blurted, pausing to take in a deep breath. Taehyung stared at Yoongi over Seokjin's shoulder.
"S-sorry hyung." He apologised sincerely. "I shouldn't have run off like t-that, I'm really sorry." Taehyung babbled. Yoongi nodded slowly, before assuring him that it's fine, he's alive and that was what matters.
"Let's go back to the flat, yeah?" Seokjin suggested, his tone gentle and friendly. The voice that always made Taehyung feel safe. Taehyung nodded, waving Yoongi goodbye.
With Seokjin's arm locked to his side, he walked away, but not before catching eyes with Hoseok. The exchange was only a second; but it felt chilling, hostile, and filled with sorrow, that left Hoseok with a dagger through his stomach. Taehyung broke the gaze, blinking slowly at him before turning back to Seokjin and vulnerably grabbing onto his shirt like a child, Seokjin rubbing his thumb in patterns along his arm comfortingly.
Yoongi watched the two walk away, letting out a breath of relief, turning to walk away before jumping in shock to see Hoseok stood awkwardly, scratching his cheek, unsure of what to do.
"Hoseok, is it?" Yoongi confirmed, taking in the boy's appearance with eyes like knifes. Hoseok stared back but with less confidence. Yoongi gathered that Hoseok recognised his identity as the latter's expression melded into one of shock before he looked ashamed.
"Yes." He stifled out. "Y... You're Suga, right?"
Yoongi paused, eyes poised, nodding slowly.
"Yeah, we've met before. Maybe not the best place or situation." Yoongi hummed, crossing his arms. "Well, I'd like to say thank you, for saving Taehyung." Hoseok bowed in reply.
"It was nothing." Hoseok dismissed, fumbling with his fingers. Yoongi raised an eyebrow.
"Taehyung's life was nothing?"
"What? N-no! That wasn't what I meant." Hoseok babbled, before sighing. "Taehyung... He is important. He was, and still is, one of the most important people that I've ever met." He stated weakly, biting back the urge to tear up. "I don't deserve any kind of forgiveness for what I did, and I understand that. Everyday I think of all of that shit I put him through and feel nothing but remorse. It was all my fault because I was stupid, and didn't know how to deal with my own problems. Nothing was his fault, but I was so dumb that I didn't see that, so I just turned to hurting him." He finished, his shaking words drowning out into the sound of passing cars, his fumbling fingers were pale white and trembling, a tear rolling down his cheek.
Yoongi watched the boy in front of him. Yoongi wasn't going to deny the fact that he didn't feel the same, if not, more anger towards Hoseok than Seokjin. The urge to break him down for everything that had happened before had been strong since the first day he had met Taehyung. He was just a young boy, vulnerable, crying out alone. His happy smile always pained by the memories of the same man who stands in front of him. But seeing him now, his eyes pained, body drained of colour, hands trembling, hair falling into his eyes: he looks so sincere, he looks like he is truly pained for what he had done.
"Alright look," Yoongi began. "I'm never going to forget that day, not ever. But I'm willing to forgive you." Hoseok gawked at Yoongi, dazed, disbelieving and almost disapproving. "But know that you've got to be careful here, you're in dangerous ground. Don't expect apologies from Taehyung, and especially Seokjin, because that may never happen, and rightly so. But that doesn't mean you should take mine for granted. If you hurt Taehyung again, there will be nothing stopping me from hunting you down and killing you. Okay?"
"Suga-..."
"Yoongi." He corrected.
"Oh sorry, Yoongi," he repeated. "I... I don't really know what to say." Hoseok baffled, searching for words.
"See you around..." Yoongi said flatly. "...Hoseok." He finished, turning away and stumbling away out of sight.
Hoseok let out a deep breath he didn't know he was holding, clutching to his jumper tightly. Seeing Taehyung again had struck something inside of him, like some kind of spark. But whether that was a good thing or not wasn't so clear.
Seokjin's words played around in his head, over and over. Is it too late to fix things? Had he really 'messed him up'? He bit down on the inside of his cheek, his mind split into two different images of how Taehyung must see him; childhood friend, heartless teenage bully. He sighed with frustration, tugging at his hair as the memories all coming flooding back to him. He wish Taehyung could know everything, know that he never wanted to hurt Taehyung; that it was all...
Hoseok sighed, stuffing his hands into his pockets, returning to the college.
