Dan lays in his bed, a soft beeping filling the silence. But it's not a clock or his alarm clock going off. It's his heart. Making soft sounds that can only be heard by Dan. He can feel the noise vibrating his chest from the inside. When he first felt it he was freaked out, more than freaked out actually, he was terrified. But he had slowly grown used to it. He had also grown used to all the numbers and letters of codes swarming inside his head. It was like he had a smartphone inside of him.
"Alarm for 11am." Dan says out loud. Alarm set for 11am in England, 5am in Eastern America, 2am in Pacific America, 5:00pm in Japan, the information swirls around his brain as more places and the time run through his brain.
In the past, the information would overwhelm him and he'd have a small melt down, which is one of the reasons he was bullied. Well, used to be bullied. That was before he knew what his new information allowed him to do. He could hack into everyone's accounts on pretty much anything to find all the dirty secrets they tried to keep to themselves. Such a shame you can't hide anything these days, it all comes back to haunt you. Especially accounts you made when you were to young to care about what info you spilled, or the cringe worthy fan fiction you wrote that you hoped to never see again. Dan could find all of it. He could find it all. No matter who you were, where you were, or how many times you changed your password. Dan would find the things you hoped no one would see.
But sadly this is also why he had no friends. He looked up everything about anyone and could never look at someone the same after he found out what they were hiding. It also thought that friends are useless and unneeded. He's done fine so far in his life, doesn't need anyone else to pop in, hide their secrets, then bring them up and crush you along with everyone else they tell. Dan used to have friends, used to have people he cared about. Now, they're gone. They tried to help him get better when his disease started to destroy him inside and out, but then when this new heart came along, he became someone new. Someone who no one knew anymore.
He was no longer Dan Howell, the smiley boy who could make you laugh at any given time and always made the best out of every situation. He was now Dan Howell, the boy with a robotic heart who had no emotions and found out everything about everyone to keep them out of his way.
"Goodnight." Dan says, tapping lightly above his heart twice and closing his eyes. Sleep mode began to take over him. His system slowed down and his breathing became heavy as black clouded his vision.
Dan didn't have dreams, he didn't need them. What was their to dream about? Computer codes and the horrible secrets people kept? Doesn't sound very entertaining nor interesting. Dreams are pointless, fragments of the imagination that assemble to create something forgotten by morning. However Dan was very interested in dreams. He found it fascinating how people could close their eyes and go somewhere else and actually feel like they were there. The brain could make it feel so real even though you're not actually awake. The brain also seems to know when you wake up so it can stop right before it gets good. It makes you forget everything outside of your head, even if it is just for one night.
Although, since Dan was incapable of dreams he just saw black, and since sleep doesn't last very long when you were doing it he didn't really mind. It was nice to hear, feel, and see nothingness. Although sometimes it just reminded him of how alone he really was.
Thank fangirl_bands_books for helping me with the plot and story line. Also thanks to @facesareblur who I sent some prompts to of which book i should write and she said this one :)
