"You wanted to see me?" Solange asked as she walked into her sister's large, white, spotless office. With all the tragedies she reads, one would think that her office would be blue or black. But no. She loved white, and her office was the only optimistic looking thing about her.
Beyoncé looked up from her book at her younger sister. She had to hire her, her mom made her. Solange had just finished college and got her degree, but she needed a stable job to stay on her feet until she got a permanent job. Beyoncé didn't mind giving her sister a job at all. She loved her sister, and she'd do anything for her, after what Solange did for her.
"Yes. How many new manuscripts came in today?"
"About fifteen."
Beyoncé sighed. "Any romances?"
Solange rolled her eyes. "Of course. Bey, you can't just ignore romance novels because-" she stopped when she saw her sister's glare.
"I read them, they're just not my priority."
"You know," Solange walked towards her sister's desk and sat at the chair in front of it. "The world does love a good love story. Even Julez likes love stories. I can't name anyone other than you who likes tragedies."
"Well, they're honest. Life isn't always great."
"And it's not always depressing. You have to let that go."
"I did let it go!" She raised her voice just a little. "It doesn't change the fact that he hurt me. It would be easier if I didn't have to see him every holiday and dinner. With her."
Solange could hear the pain in her voice. Most people would probably tell her to just get over it. But it's hard to move on from something like your fiancé cheating on you, just days before your wedding, and with your own sister.
Beyoncé and Solange have a sister between them. She's one year younger than Beyoncé, and she was beautiful, just like all the Knowles girls were. Beyoncé used to be happy, she used to wear her smile more than she wore her favorite earrings, she used to dress like she knew she had curves to die for, and she was so sweet. She just had a genuine love for the world, and that was because of Mr. Terrance Logan. He and Beyoncé had been together for five years before he asked her to marry him. She didn't need to think twice before saying yes. They planned their wedding for six months, making sure everything was perfect. Then, just two days before she was to walk down the aisle with the only man she had ever loved, she came home to find him in the bed with her sister.

She didn't cry. Not in front of them, at least. When she caught them, she stood there, frozen for a long time. The worst part about the whole situation is that neither of them felt sorry for what they had done, they felt sorry only for getting caught. They kept saying that they didn't want her to find out this way. When Beyoncé finally lost it and expressed how much she hated them for doing this to her, they claimed that the only thing they were guilty of was falling in love.
In the privacy of her own apartment, which she didn't want to sell until after the wedding, she finally cried. She couldn't believe that two people who she loved, and who she thought loved her, could do something like this. Her family was conflicted. Everyone knew it was wrong, but especially Tina, as a mother, didn't know what to do. She hated that one of her daughters stole someone from her other daughter, but when they asked for her blessing for them to get married the following year, she didn't have it in her heart to say no. Beyoncé didn't hold a grudge against her mother either. She understood that it was a very hard position for her to be in. She couldn't favor one daughter over the other, no matter who was right or wrong.

Solange, on the other hand, did take sides. She made it very clear that Larren, their sister, was completely in the wrong, in her opinion. She didn't grumble about it all the time, but she did make sure to let Larren know that she would never be okay with what she did. Solange was the rock that Beyoncé needed at the time. She didn't know how many times she'd gone to her sister's house and cried on her shoulder. Solange was the only person Beyoncé ever cried in front of.
She didn't go to their wedding. She couldn't. And because of that, Larren now held a grudge against her. But who could blame Beyoncé? She didn't want to see the man that she was still in love with marry her own sister, when she knew it should have been her. The two sisters hardly spoke to each other anymore, but Ms. Tina made them promise to act cordial around each other during holidays and family gatherings. It was the least they could do.
