Beyoncé groaned for the dozenth time as her daughter moved inside of her. The noise came out soft, but Shawn, who was sitting next to her and keeping a watchful eye on her, had heard it.
"You okay?" He asked, and he placed his hand on her large belly.
Beyoncé smiled and laid her hand on top of his. "Yeah. I think she's just hungry."
He smirked at her. "She's hungry, or you're hungry?"
"Both, I suppose." She let out a light laugh. She was too out of breath all the time to muster any real laugh.
She couldn't help though that her stomach was growling as well. She was seated in her mother's living room on the couch, waiting for the food to be finished. Normally, she might be in the kitchen helping and sneaking in a few bites, but with the baby being only days away from her arrival, no one would let her so much as stand if she didn't have to. Her mother even asked her if she wanted to eat in the living room, but Beyoncé insisted on eating at the table with her family, like normal.
Shawn's family was in town as well. Well, everyone except James, who claimed he had to work. Jasmine and Michelle even came with their husbands and children, whom Beyoncé herself was meeting for the first time. They flew in for the New Year, and everyone was becoming well acquainted. Ms. Gloria was helping Ms. Tina cook in the kitchen, and the two of them clicked like they were old friends. When Miss Tina called for the table to be set, Shawn stood up and made his way to the dining room after planting a kiss on Beyoncé's fattened cheek. She offered to help, but again, everyone insisted that she rest. So, while the rest of the family got Sunday's dinner together, Beyoncé leaned against the armrest of the couch and closed her eyes. She hadn't done anything particularly exhausting that day, but nevertheless, she was tired. It probably had to do with the fact that she could barely breathe due to the size and weight of the baby inside of her. The simple task of walking from the car to the front door had left her out of breath. That was when everyone decided that she should probably stay off of her feet.
She was due any day now. Her projected due date was the tenth of January, but she wouldn't be surprised if the baby came a little sooner. She could feel that the baby was dropping, and she knew that her head was already down, as she often received kicks in the ribs. She even had a false alarm just a week before on New Years Day. But when she went to the hospital to be checked, she was told that she was only having Braxton hicks contractions, and to return once they got stronger. Since then, she hasn't had too many.
Then, just as the thought occurred to her, she felt a slight pinching feeling in her pelvic region. It wasn't severe enough to really cause her any pain, but it was a little uncomfortable. She ignored it though, mostly because the pressure in her bladder overruled the pinching sensation anyway.

"Hey," I opened my eyes as Shawn came back into the living room for me. "You can go ahead and sit at the table. They're just finishing up the food." He held his hands out to me as he spoke.
I grabbed them and tried to balance my weight as I stood up. It was a task that became more and more difficult each time, but Shawn held me steadily and ensured that I didn't lose my balance. "I have to use the bathroom first." I said as I grimaced a little. Once I was steady on my feet, I felt a sharp pain down there, but again, it wasn't worse than my full bladder, so it didn't bother me so much.
He helped me to the bathroom, and then by the time I got back out into the dining room, the table was completely set.
For whatever reason, the sight before my eyes almost brought me to tears. I knew that this would be the last time I'd have family dinner as just me. The next time, I'd be a mother. It only made it even more special that both of our families were here.We said grace together, and amidst the blessing of the food, I felt that pain again, except this time it was a little more noticeable. I didn't mention anything though, because I didn't want to worry anyone. And I was so hungry, I didn't want to put off dinner just to be told that I may not even be in labor yet. Again.
Shawn fixed my plate for me, and I'm sure that the baby was anticipating the food too, because of how much she was moving. As we ate, we all talked about various things, and the atmosphere was truly happy. With Terrence almost officially out of the picture, Larren was a lot happier. Her and Aiden were living in a nice apartment just for the two of them, and he was just thriving. He was nearing six months, and I could tell that Larren just fell in love with him more and more everyday. I couldn't help my smile when his face lit up every time Larren held out a spoonful of mashed potatoes for him. Every time I see them together, I get more and more excited to meet my baby.
