"Mom,"Alice calls out when her and Clary enter their apart that they share with their mother,Jocelyn. Jocelyn looks like an older version of Clary but with darker hair while Clary's hair is a bright fire orange.

"You did it! Yay,"Jocelyn said as she walked over to both of her daughters. Clary raised her eyebrow at her mother. Alice let out a small laugh at the fact that her mother even has a twitter.

"You also follow Simon,"Alice asked as her mother brought her into a hug.

"He only has 92 followers. He needs the retweets. Congratulations,"She said before hugging Clary very tightly. Alice looked to the side and saw that. Her heart panged a little with hurt then again she shrugged it off. She knew she wasn't Jocelyn's real daughter. It was a secret but she felt like she didn't get treated like she was apart of their family all of the time even though she was adopted into it.

"Thank you,"Clary replied back with a smile.

"Hashtag, stalker mom,"Alice said. Jocelyn shot her a playful warning look as the three of them sat down on the couch. When they did Jocelyn pulled out two boxes. She handed one to Clary and the other Alice.

"Happy birthday,"she said.

"It's not my birthday though,"Alice said in confusing.

"I know but this...in this box...it was your mother's,"Jocelyn said which made Alice light up a little. She has something that belonged to her biological mother. Alice eagerly opened the box the same time Clary did. When both of the boxes were opened, they saw two metal wands with a tip that was white. Symbols were on both. Clary looked at it in complete confusion as did Alice because they have not seen one of these before.

"Its called a stele."Jocelyn explained to them.

"What is it,like,a paperweight,"Clary asked while lifting hers up and out of the box in an instant. Alice stared at hers. She was slightly afraid to ruin it because it was the only thing she now had that belonged to her biological family.

"No,it's much more than that. It's very ancient. I want you to have it,"Jocelyn said to her daughter as she looked up at her other one.

"And you Alice,I want you to now have your mother's,"Jocelyn said with a tight small smile.

"You know this is weird. I remember seeing something like this on one of Clary's drawing journals lately. I also have been drawing some of the symbols myself,"Alice said as she finally let her finished brush on the cold metal of the stele and lift it carefully from the box. Alice got a foreign but powerful vibe from it.

"Honey we need to---,"Jocelyn started to say but was cut off by Clary's phone chiming. She looked down and say that she got a text message from Simon.

"Simon is coming over,"Clary said as she stood up from where she sat.

"But we need to talk,"Jocelyn said in an urgent tone which caught Alice's attention.

"I can't right now. I gotta go change,"Clary said as she went up stairs

"Yeah. We have Simon's gig later,"Alice said as she went up after her to also get ready for the gig later on tonight.

After they were both getting ready,Clary came down stairs in the shirt that Dot got her as Alice was dressed in her favorite all dark black outfit. When they found their mother, she was in the kitchen with Luke.

"Hey Luke,"they both said to him.

"Hey! Incredible drawings,"he complimented Clary.

"Oh,thanks,"she replies back to her father figure.

"And I got you these,"he said as he lifted up a box and placed it on the table. Spray paint in cans. Clary's face lit up at her new birthday present. Luke turned to the other child and smiled at her.

"Even though it's not your birthday. Doesn't mean I forgot about you,"he said to Alice and place a small set of canvas paints on the table for her. She smiled before thanking Luke as well. Silence filled the room until Luke cleared his throat and pointed to the stele that Clary had in her pocket.

"Did your mother talk to you about that,"Luke asked as he shared a glance with Jocelyn before looking back at the girls.

"Yes. It is some old family heirloom,"Clary said trailing off as she didn't know much about the object that she held in her hands.

"Clary and Alice, you both are eighteen now,"Luke started to say but was cut off by an annoyed Clary.

"What is with you guys? I'm turning eighteen,it's not like I am headed on some epic journey,"Clary exclaimed.

"But you are,"Simon exclaimed back as he entered the apartment.

"See,we are going to Lombardi's to celebrate after our gig,"Simon said with a smile. Jocelyn grew worried at this. Both her daughter's being out so late when both of their memories started to surface about their past.

"You should come back after. The city's not that safe right now,"Jocelyn suggested but it sounded more like a demand for both girls.

"Ah,thanks, Mom,but we're set,"Alice piped up as she didn't want to return home right away after the gig. She wanted to go somewhere and have fun for Clary's b-day.

"Yeah, we will take a rain check,"Alice said as they all walked away.

"Wait,"Simon said before stopping as a smile appeared on his face.

"Do I smell chicken cacciatore",he asked with a smile.

"Simon, your gig,"Clary quickly reminded him as Alice nudged him lightly in the ribs.

"Oh, you're singing,"Luke asked.

"Yes, big gig. And by big, I mean not so,"Simon said with sarcasm which made everyone laugh. Jocelyn went over and hugged Clary. Alice couldn't lie she was a bit jealous by it. She got it that she wasn't Jocelyn's real daughter but she just wished that Jocelyn would treat her equally to Clary sometimes but doesn't.

"Losing circulation here,"Clary said as she patted her mother on the back. Her mother released her from the hug as she gave a quick glanced to Alice.

"Breakfast, you,me,and Alice tomorrow,"her mother said as both girls nodded their heads.

"Promise,"Jocelyn asked.

"Yep,"Alice said while Clary just nodded her head. Jocelyn brought both girls into a tight hug this time. They both didn't want to be late for the gig.

"Mom uh, Mom? Mom, you have to let us go. I'm biologically and legally an adult. So is Alice,"Clary said with a small laugh.

"Yeah. That's what I'm afraid of,"Jocelyn commented. Clary ignored it but Alice wanted to know what she meant by it as she couldn't help but get a weird feeling from her mother's words.

"Shall we,"Simon asked both of the girls.

"Yes,"they both said at the same time and all walked away.

Jocelyn turned back to Luke and gave him a look of worry. She worried for Clary and was very scared that the people that wanted to harm them would find Clary and Alice then hurt them both.

"Just let them be a kid for one last day,"Luke said and Jocelyn nodded her head before mumbling out a quick okay with a sad smile on her face.
