CHAPTER 21
LEXI POV
Bad trip ako dito kay Rick. Nagpumilit pa na isama si Kris at si Joyce. Napaka-insensitive! He doesn’t realize the siginificance of THE first date after a couple becomes “official”. But more than that, naiinis ako kasi I was actually looking forward to our alone time together. I really don’t get him at all! Minsan sweet, minsan deadma. Minsan sensitive, minsan dense. Anyway I texted Joyce while we were on our way here.
Text message:
Lexi: Sis, sorry ha? I know that you would have wanted to spend time alone with Kris. Ewan ko dito sa isang to kung ano pumasok sa isip at gusto pa na magkakasama tayo. Sorry talaga.
Joyce: Ok lang Lexi. Ok lang sa amin ni Kris. I’m sure Rick has his reasons. Malay mo, he just needs moral support from us para magtapat na siya sa iyo. Hahaha.
Lexi: Imposible! Napakatorpe eh. Kung pwede nga lang ako na ang magtapat eh. So slow! Haha!
Joyce: Just wait sis
So we’re finally here in Rockwell for our “date”. We had a light meal in Café Breton. It’s always fun with the four of us hanging out kahit na bad trip ako kay Rick. It also gave me a chance to observe Kris and Joyce. Nakakatuwa panoorin ang bestfriend ko with Kris. You can really see how in love they are with each other. They don’t overly do PDA. It’s just simple gestures of affection like Kris holding Joyce’s hands or absentmindedly toying with her hair. Joyce leaning on Kris. Kris putting his arm on the back of Joyce’s chair. Them smiling sweetly at each other for no reason. Kakainggit tuloy sila. I’m so happy for them. I secretly texted Joyce.
Text message:
Lexi: Sis, I’m really happy for you
Joyce: Awww, thanks sis. Di bale, I can feel na malapit ka na din J
Lexi: Asa pa!
Joyce: We’ll see :P
After dinner,
Kris: Rick, dun lang kami ni Joyce sa may mga bench dun ha? Iwan muna namin kayo ni Lexi.
In my mind, YESSS! Thank you Kris! You’re such an angel. Siyempre ako pa talaga ang natuwa. Natawa din si Joyce. Feeling ko alam niya kung ano naiisip ko! Si Rick mukhang hindi kumportable. Ano ba problema nitong lalaking to?!
Rick: Ha? O sige…
So it was just the two of us...FINALLY!
Rick: Uhmm, sarap ng food no?
I can’t believe it! He just asked me about the food?!
Lexi: Oo naman.
Rick: By the way, si Kris and Joyce na sa wakas.
Lexi: Oo nga eh. It took them a while to get there but it’s worth the wait. Look at how happy they are. Ako kaya kailan?
Rick: Don’t worry Lex, dadating din yun.
Oh my god! Ang dense niya! Fishing na nga ako eh. Di pa na-gets.
Lexi: It makes me want to be with SOMEONE too.
Rick: Oo nga eh.
Arrrrgggghhhhhhh!
Lexi: How about you? Don’t you ever wish to have that SOMEONE RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT?
Rick: Hmm, hindi naman ako nagmamadali.
Oh my god! Hindi ko na to kaya. Hindi niya ma-gets. Joyce, help me!
JOYCE POV
Lumayo kami dun sa dalawa para naman makapagtapat na si Rick kay Lexi. Ngayon ko lang nalaman na torpe pala si Rick when it comes to Lexi. Nakakatuwa lang.
Joyce: Kris, tignan mo si Lexi. Mukhang frustrated na. Haha!
Kris: Kakaiba naman talaga kasi si Rick eh. Tignan mo, mukhang si Lexi pa ang gumagawa ng moves. Haha!
Joyce: Kawawa naman ang best friend ko. Sigurado ka ba na gusto ni Rick si Lexi. Baka naman masaktan lang ang kaibigan ko ha?
Kris: Rick told me himself. In love siya kay Lexi but he doesn’t know how to propose to her. Hindi niya alam kung paano sabihin. Hayaan mo na sila. The right moment will come for them. Parang yung sa atin diba?
Kinilig na naman ako kasi naalala ko when it finally happened for us.
Kris: Tara, bili tayo ng sundae. Malay mo pagbalik natin napasagot na ni Lexi si Rick. Hahaha!
This time, I was the one who reached for his hand first and linked my fingers with his. I looked at him. He smiled at me. I could tell that he appreciates it everytime I make the first move to be affectionate with him.
Joyce: Love you, hon.
Kris: Sweet naman! Haha. Love you too.
LEXI POV
It’s been two hours already. Wala pa din. Nakakaiyak na talaga. Baka naman I’m just reading too much into things. Baka naman he just really likes me as a friend. Napatahimik na lang ako.
Rick: Lexi, are you ok? Tahimik mo ata.
Hindi ba ko girlfriend material? Kaya ko ba na maging friends lang kami? One-sided lang ba talaga lahat? I can’t help it, feeling ko iiyak na ko anytime. I want to get out of here bago pa ako umiyak.
Lexi: Ha? Oo naman. Tara na, uwi na tayo.
Rick: Uwi na? Why? Uy, ok ka lang?
Lexi: Let’s go.
I already stood up. Nagulat ako when he held my hand.
Rick: Lexi, wait.
I didn’t speak.
Rick: I’ve been wanting to tell you this since kanina.
I still didn’t say anything.
Rick: Upo ka muna, please?
I sat down. Feeling ko this is the moment when he’s finally going to say “Lexi, I think we’re better off as friends”. Ang sakit pala. Honestly, in love na ako kay Rick. But if he doesn’t feel the same way about me, ano naman ang magagawa ko?
Rick: I don’t know how to say this to you.
Just get it over and done with.
Rick: I think we’re better off...
I closed my eyes. Sabi ko na eh…
Rick: …as a couple…
Nagulat ako! Tama na ang narinig ko? I opened my eyes and looked at him.
Rick: I love you and I’d like to be your SOMEONE if you’ll give me a chance.
Speechless ako…
Rick: Uy, for the first time, wala kang masabi.
………..
Rick: Uy Lex, say something please?
Lexi: …. Nakakainis ka kasi! Ang tagal mo magtapat! Ang tagal ko na naghihintay sa iyo!
Rick: Ha? Sorry naman. Eh hindi ko alam kung paano gawin eh. Kaya nga nagpasama pa ako kay Kris at Joyce eh. Sorry na.
Lexi: Imagine? Kulang na lang ako na ang magtapat sa iyo? Kainis ka!
Rick: Sorry naman. So tayo na?
Lexi: OO!
Rick: Talaga?
Lexi: Oo nga.
Rick: Yesss!
Then he hugged me and whispered… “I love you Lexi”
Lexi: Talaga? Kahit nagger ako? Kahit hindi ako sweet?
Rick: Kahit pa. You don’t need to change anything about you. I love you.
Lexi: I love you too Rick.
So after a very loooonnnnnggggggg wait, may boyfriend na ko!!!
